We have had a wonderful short week of learning here at East Chester Elementary School! As we are a Leader in Me School, we use the 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey to help us be the best version of ourselves. This month’s habit is Habit 6: Synergize. This Friday, we will reflect on this habit by learning ways to use creative cooperation and that together is better.
The students at East Chester recognized 2-22-22 with a TWO’s DAY. They were busy with all kinds of two themed activities. Kindergarteners brought in pictures of themselves when they were two years old. First graders celebrated the day by practicing skip counting by twos. Our second graders celebrated the day by creating a time capsule made on 2-22-22 to be opened on 3-33-33 and a dance party at 2:22 p.m. Third graders observed TWO’s DAY by working two math problems for each skill that the students have learned this year.
Humphrey is keeping us curious! We are continuing to read about his adventures in Room 26 with our school-wide book, “The World According to Humphrey.” If you see an East Chester student, be sure to ask them what Humphrey is up to this week!
Kindergarteners are learning so much! They are spending time this week to review R-controlled vowels such as ar, er, ir, or and ur. They will also work on punctuation. In math the students are working on teen numbers focusing on 18 and 19. This week, the students are continuing their unit on American symbols and presidents.
In first grade the students are working hard! The students are reading fairy tales and learning what makes a story a fairy tale. In math the students are working on 10 more, 10 less, one more and one less.
Second graders are really coming along! They are reading about ancient Greece. They are learning that many of the ideas we enjoy today came from the ancient Grecians such as the Olympics and democracy. In math the students are continuing to use strategies to subtract three-digit numbers with regrouping.
Our third graders are showing all that they know! In math the students are continuing to learn about fractions. This week the students are learning how to compare fractions with the same denominator and the same numerator. You might hear a third grader chanting, “The bigger the denominator, the smaller the pieces!” over and over.
Just a reminder that our Yearbook Pre Sale will begin on Feb. 28 and go through March 10. Yearbooks must be bought in advance.
