We are having a wonderful week of learning here at East Chester! Our Famous American Wax Museum has been postponed until March 4. We can not wait to learn about these famous Americans from the “wax figures”!
Humphrey sure has been busy in Room 26. Humphrey is the main character in our school-wide book, “The World According to Humphrey.” Humphrey, the hamster, is the class pet in Room 26 at Longfellow Elementary School, and he shares his adventures with us readers. If you see an East Chester student, be sure to ask them if Aldo ever found Humphrey’s note!
Kindergarteners are learning so much! They are spending time this week to review R-controlled vowels such as ar, er, ir, or and ur. They will also work on punctuation. In math the students are working on teen numbers focusing on 18 and 19. This week, the students are continuing their unit on American symbols and presidents.
In first grade the students are working hard! The students are reading fairy tales and learning what makes a story a fairy tale. In math the students are working on 10 more, 10 less, one more and one less.
Second graders are really coming along! They are reading about ancient Greece. They are learning that many of the ideas we enjoy today came from the ancient Grecians such as the Olympics and democracy. In math the students are continuing to use strategies to subtract three-digit numbers with regrouping.
Our third graders are showing all that they know! In math the students are continuing to learn about fractions. This week the students are learning how to compare fractions with the same denominator and the same numerator. You might hear a third grader chanting, “The bigger the denominator, the smaller the pieces!” over and over. If you see an East Chester third grader, be sure to ask them what that means!
We have just a few reminders to share this week. Our Yearbook Pre-Sale began on Feb. 28 and will go through March 10. Yearbooks must be bought in advance. An order form should have been sent home in each student’s take home folder. Spring Pictures are scheduled for kindergarten and first graders on March 9 and second graders and third graders on March 10. Report Cards will be sent home on March 17.
As always, it is a great day to be at East Chester Elementary School!
