We at East Chester are enjoying our week of Spring Break! We have worked so hard this past nine weeks that we wanted to share some highlights of what we have been learning since January!
Kindergarten has learned lots this nine weeks! In math the students learned how to recognize, write, count sets, compose and decompose teen numbers. They also learned how to count to 100 by ones, fives and 10s and how to add fluently with mental strategies. In reading they have learned how to identify story elements like character, setting and plot. Kindergarteners have worked on the conventions of writing like ending punctuation and when you should use a capital letter. The students have also learned 110 sight words so far this year! They have worked on informational writing and using sequential words like first, next and last. In science the students have worked on states of matter, animals in winter, seasons and weather. In social studies they have worked on the presidents and symbols of our great state of Tennessee!
First graders have been working hard! This nine weeks, first graders have spent time learning about America as a new nation and American symbols. In math students learned how to find 10 more, 10 less, one more and one less of any number!
Second grade has been busy since January! The students learned about ancient cultures such as ancient Asia, Greece and Sparta. In math students have been working on adding and subtracting three-digit numbers with regrouping.
This nine weeks, our third graders learned so many new things! Students learned about Colonial America and what life was like in the colonies. Math also brought new learning. First, the students learned what a fraction is, the job of the numerator and denominator, how to find equivalent fractions, how to compare fractions and fractions that are greater than one. They also learned how to tell time to the nearest minute and how to find elapsed time. Wow! Third graders have been busy this nine weeks!
Just a reminder that students return to school on March 29!
