We have been busy here at East Chester Elementary School!
We all enjoyed our trip to see Makin’ Music at Freed-Hardeman University! The props, costumes, vocals, and even the bottle flipping wowed our students! Thank you to Freed-Hardeman and Chester County School System for allowing us to go!
Our third graders had some special guests last week in honor of financial literacy week. Friends from our local branch of Centennial Bank talked with our students about ways to save money. Each student received a piggy bank and a quarter to begin saving for that mansion that they all said they wanted!
The kindergarteners reminded us of the 7 Habits of Happy Kids when they led our Leader in Me Assembly last Thursday. Those little learners did a fantastic job retelling stories that explained each of the habits.
In kindergarten the students are working hard! This week, the students are working on increasing their reading fluency. They are also continuing to work on finding the main idea and details. In math the students are continuing to work on subtraction. With Easter right around the corner, the students are working on a short unit about oviparous animals. Be sure to ask an East Chester kindergartener what oviparous means!
First graders are learning so many new things! The students finished up their unit on Tennessee critters. This week, the students are learning about the Three Grand Divisions of Tennessee. In math the students are learning how to tell time to the nearest hour and half hour. They are also learning to identify the different coins and the value of each coin.
Our second and third graders are getting ready for state testing next week. Students are spending this week reviewing and practicing sample items in preparation for the tests. East Chester students are going to do so well on these tests! We are so proud of our students already! If you see an East Chester student, be sure to let them know that you believe they will be successful on their tests!
Just a reminder that schools will be closed on Friday, April 15, in observance of Good Friday.
