We are ready for another wonderful week at East Chester! Let’s take a look at all the wonderful things happening!
In third grade they will be doing activities that correlate with their story “Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp, Part 3.” They will also read “The Open Road” from “The Wind in the Willows.” They will be discussing the different themes presented in the read-aloud. In math third grade is rounding numbers to the nearest 100 as well as estimating sums and differences!
In second grade they are continuing the unit “Bedtime Tales.” They will be reviewing long vowel spellings. In math second graders are learning about arrays! For their read-aloud time, they will continue with Tall Tales while learning about John Henry and Casey Jones. In social studies they will begin a study on landforms! They are working on writing to compare!
In first grade they are working on building their reading fluency! They have been reading stories from “Snap Shots” and “Gran’s Trips!” They are working hard to answer questions in complete sentences when writing. In their read-aloud time, they are reading “Different Lands, Similar Stories.” It is fun to learn how different parts of the world tell similar stories differently. In math they are working on adding and subtracting on a number line. In science they are learning about space and will be moving onto Earth’s surface.
In kindergarten they will be learning about the letters Nn and Hh, as well as reviewing the letters M, A, T, D, O, C, G and I. They are learning about rhyming as well! In math they are focusing on numbers still and will begin a unit on position words shortly. In social studies they are learning what it takes to have good teamwork! In writing they are really focused on writing their letters correctly on the lines!
There is so much wonderful learning happening at East Chester! We also have some very important dates coming up that we do not want you to forget!
Sept. 20 – This is the end of the PTO membership drive (the date has been pushed back from the original of 9/16). There will be a PTO meeting on Sept. 20 followed by parent engagement, “Under the Big Top!”
Sept. 22 – School board meeting is at East Chester! The third graders will be presenting a portion of their Leader in Me program!
