We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and holiday! It is crazy to think that we only have three weeks left before Christmas break. There is so much learning taking place at East Chester as well as some very exciting things.
Here are some important dates to keep in mind:
Dec. 5-9 – PTO Santa’s shop.
Dec. 8 – Christmas program at William’s Auditorium at 6:30 p.m.
Dec. 12-15 – Christmas Literature week
Dec. 16 – 11 p.m. dismissal
Dec. 19-Jan. 2 – Christmas Break
Jan. 3 – Administrative day (No Students)
Here is what is going on in kindergarten. In reading they are reviewing what they have learned the past nine weeks in preparation for their report card testing. In math they are focusing on the number 10. They are also working on greater than, less than and equal to. They will also work on addition fluency. In social studies they are learning about Colonial Towns and townspeople. In writing they are continuing to perfect the sentences.
In first grade they are going to be reading various Christmas books and working on skill review with those books. They will be sequencing, identifying nouns, adjectives and verbs. They boarded the plane today and are traveling around the world to learn how different cultures and countries celebrate Christmas. In math they are going to begin a unit on measurement. In science they will finish up their unit on astronomy. They are also doing some creative holiday writing activities!
In second grade they are looking at long vowel spelling and other vowel combinations. They are going to be reading from their ‘Kids Excel’ reader. In math they are subtracting two digits within 100. Their focus this week will be subtracting on an open number line and standard algorithm. During their read aloud, they will continue their unit on “Westward Expansion.” They will be reading about The Oregon Trail and The Pony Express. In social studies they are going to finish their unit in the government. They will have a “Storyland” election.
In third grade they are reading “Vertebrate or Invertebrate.” They are learning about text features and about an author’s purpose for writing a text. They will also be learning how to write an address correctly. In math they are starting their study of understanding multiplication and division of whole numbers. They will be learning how to multiply by zero, one and 10. They will also be learning multiplication facts zero, one, two, five, none and 10.
We are also celebrating December by having fun dress up days this month. Thursday, Dec. 1, will be wear RED for “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” Friday, Dec. 2, will be wear BLUE and WHITE for “Winter Wonderland.”
We hope you have a great week!
