It is a great week to be an Eagle! There are so many wonderful things happening here at East Chester! Let’s look at some of those things.
In kindergarten they will continue learning about consonant digraphs and also work on middle sounds. In math they will focus on the number 13 and breaking teens into a 10 and some ones. They will continue to work on addition fluency as well. In social studies they will study animals that hibernate during winter. Keep working hard!
In first grade they are working hard on writing paragraphs! In reading they are learning about the Green Fern Zoo and various animals that are there. In knowledge they are learning about Animals and Habitats. So far they have visited the Arctic Tundra and Arctic Ocean. In math they are working on subtracting groups of tens from a two-digit number. Keep it up!
In second grade they are learning about proper nouns and sentence structure. They will be reading texts and answering questions using complete sentences. This week in math, they will compare measurements. They will also work with word problems that have measurements in them. In knowledge they are learning about the War of 1812. This week, they will meet our fourth president and his wife – James and Dolley Madison!
In third grade they will read Chapter 5 in our reading books. They will read the passage, “Fish.” They will continue learning how to compare and contrast two texts on the same topic. They will also learn how to determine the main idea of a passage. They will continue learning about text features and how they help us understand a text. In math they will be working on fluently multiplying and dividing within 100.
Some important reminders:
Jan. 27 – First grade is in charge of the Leader in Me Assembly. It will be on the East Chester PTO page at 9 a.m.
Jan. 31 – Blood drive at East Chester 1 – 5 p.m.
Feb. 16 – Parent teacher conferences 5 – 8 p.m.
Feb. 17 and 20 – No school (President’s Day)
Feb. 21 – Patriotic Program 6:30 p.m. at Williams Auditorium
Feb. 22-23 – Spring pictures
