There are so many wonderful things happening at East Chester. Before we look at what each grade is up to, let’s look at some important things happening at East. Last Tuesday night was our Parent Involvement. We had “Fenway Night!” It was a huge success, and we appreciate all those who came! Here are some upcoming dates to remember:
April 13 – Makin’ Music kids show at Freed-Hardeman
April 17 – Second and third graders begin TCAP! Best of luck!
April 27 – Kindergarten round-up for future Eagles!
May 4 – Kindergarten registration from noon-5 p.m. at East Chester
In kindergarten they are working on identifying the main idea and key details. They are working on subtracting in math and will begin learning about measurement. In science they started a unit on plants. In writing they will be learning how to write a narrative story! Keep up the hard work!
In first grade they are working on their writing stamina! In reading they are learning about Frontier Explorers like Daniel Boone. They are also learning about the Louisiana Purchase! In science they are finishing up a study on the Survival of Living Things and will start a unit on Plants soon! In math they are working hard on identifying and counting coins. They will also start working on telling time to the hour and half hour.
In second grade they are going to continue their unit titled “Sir Gus.” In math they will be adding three digit numbers using various strategies. In reading they will be working on their unit on Ancient Asian Civilizations. In science they are working on a unit of the life cycle.
In third grade in reading, they will be reading fables, tall tales, and plays (dramas). They will learn about the characteristics of these texts as well as compare and contrast them. They will also learn to use conjunctions and abstract nouns. They will review quotations. In math they are learning how to represent fractions as numbers.
