It was a fantastic week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School! We are learning and growing so much in such a short time, and we can not believe it is already Thanksgiving time!
Kindergarten had a great week! Some skills we worked on included sight words, blending cvc words, finding the beginning sound, rhyming words, counting without skipping numbers and addition. We hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving break. Students return Monday, Nov. 30.
We had a wonderful week in first grade. We continued reading folktales in order to compare and contrast the stories. We read “Tom Thumb” and “Thumbelina.” We finished up our long vowel sound unit this week. We also brainstormed ideas of how to cook a turkey and wrote about how to cook a turkey. In math we finished up learning about 3D shapes and started learning about 2D shapes being divided into equal shares and parts. We have two days of school this week and then we are out for Thanksgiving. We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving with their loved ones!
In second grade reading we did a book study on The Magic Tree House. Thanksgiving is on Thursday. We learned the /oe/ sound and the /ie/ sounds. In math we learned place value and number forms. In Social Studies we learned about supply, demand, imports and exports. We also completed a project to show how grateful we are to our school staff.
Third graders learned how the first people, Native Americans, came to America as they used reading skills to understand cause and effect, how illustrations support text, compare groups and build on other strategies, vocabulary and fluency. In math we continued multiplication strategies and learned the facts. Social studies work consisted of geography, including landforms, regions, and states. We hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving and enjoys the break!
As the temperature continues to fall, remember to label your child’s winter clothing items (jackets, coats, hats, etc.). We already have several jackets hanging on our lost and found rack.
The Chester County School System is now recognized as a critical infrastructure. This policy now requires students third grade and above to wear masks.
