It was a wonderful week at Jacks Creek Elementary! Read on to hear what incredible things we have been learning about!
Kindergarten had a fantastic week. We worked on sentence writing and reading, sight words, counting by 1s and 10s, 3-D shapes and adding fluently. Do not forget to practice sight words each night as part of your child’s homework. Thanks for all you do to help your child be successful and to support our class and school.
First graders continued their study of space. They had a blast working with their partner and demonstrating the moon’s phases using Oreo cookies. After they displayed the moon’s phases, they enjoyed eating them. The boys and girls also wrote about what they would do on the moon if they ever had a chance to take a trip there.
In second grade we continued to learn about the human body in reading. We are also learning vowel sounds such as /oe/, /y/, /ie/, and /i/. We are reading “The Job Hunt” to improve our comprehension and fluency skills. We began learning how to add and subtract numbers up to one thousand in math. In science we learned about habitats.
We are so proud of our third graders! They learned so much, as they seem to have really blossomed since coming back from winter break! We worked hard on writing a narrative, which included developing characters and setting, writing with dialogue and having a complete plot (beginning, middle, and end) with a problem and solution. In the midst of this, we learned about the original 13 colonies and that time period in America through reading historical fiction and nonfiction texts. As we read, we practiced skills and strategies of making connections, finding main ideas and key details, using context clues, retelling stories, and more. In math we learned about area of shapes. Be sure to ask your child what area is and how it is found, what narrative writing includes and to tell you about one of the colonies they have learned about so far.
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Dominic Hairrell, whose favorite books are books about dogs and whose favorite food is chicken. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to the incredible Vicki Brower. Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite food is watermelon! We appreciate all that she does as one of our first grade teachers.
Since it is winter, remember to label your child’s winter clothing items (jackets, coats, hats, etc.). We already have several jackets hanging on our lost and found rack. The Chester County School System is now recognized as a critical infrastructure. This policy now requires students third grade and above to wear masks.
It is important that we are able to contact you or a family member if your child is sick, injured, etc., or if school is dismissed for inclement weather or other unexpected reasons. A pink Student Information Form has been sent home with all students for a parent/guardian to complete and return by Thursday. We need ALL students to return this pink form. District and school information is often shared through phone calls and/or Remind text messages. Therefore, please continue to keep this information up-to-date by contacting the school when changes are made. JOIN REMIND Messaging by texting the code below to 81010: @ccsdjces (Jack’s Creek Elementary) AND @ccsdist (Chester Co. School District)
