It was a great week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School!
Kindergarten had another great week of learning. We worked on reading words with blends, sentence writing, counting by ones and 10s and adding fluently. Information was sent home about our Domino’s pizza fundraiser. The last day for the fundraiser will be Feb. 2. More information will be sent home about our 100th day celebration on Jan. 26. Yearbook sales will be from Jan. 27- Feb. 10. Information will also be sent home soon concerning our parent/teacher conferences coming up on Feb. 11.
We had a great week in first grade! We finished up our unit on the solar system. Then, we started a unit on the history of earth. In reading skills we continued reading fables. In math we continued counting by ones and 10s. Then, we started learning about place value. We look forward to another great week.
We excitedly learned about immigrants in second grade. Did you know 23 million immigrants were processed through Ellis Island during 1880-1920. We are still reading “The Job Hunt” to improve our reading skills. In math we learned multiple strategies, such as a number line, expanded form and compensation, to add three digit numbers. In science we learned about Earth.
Third graders learned more about the beginning of our country as we continue to study the original thirteen colonies. We also finished up our narrative writing stories that we are eager to share. In math, we just completed the unit on area and began learning about graphs and data. The students were very excited about science as we studied clouds, weather and climate with a few experiments and activities to help further understanding. Ask the kiddos about the rain clouds we made to examine.
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Joshua Clayton, whose favorite books are books about Batman, and his favorite food is pizza. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to Melissa Greenway. Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite food is Mexican food! We appreciate all that she does as one of our third grader teachers.
Since it is winter, remember to label your child’s winter clothing items (jackets, coats, hats, etc.). We already have several jackets hanging on our lost and found rack. The Chester County School System is now recognized as a critical infrastructure. This policy now requires students third grade and above to wear masks.
It is important that we are able to contact you or a family member if your child is sick, injured, etc., or school is dismissed for inclement weather or other unexpected reasons. A pink Student Information Form has been sent home with all students for a parent/guardian to complete and return. We need ALL students to return this pink form. District and school information is often shared through phone calls and/or Remind text messages. Therefore, please continue to keep this information up-to-date by contacting the school when changes are made. JOIN REMIND Messaging by texting the code below to 81010: @ccsdjces (Jack’s Creek Elementary) AND @ccsdist (Chester Co. School District)
