We had a great week at Jacks Creek Elementary School as we celebrated over 100 days of school!
Kindergarten had a great week! Students continued to work hard on blending words to read, digraphs, sentence writing, count by ones and 10s, 3D shapes and adding fluently. We look forward to speaking with everyone at our virtual parent teacher conferences this Thursday, Feb. 11. No school for students on Feb. 12 and also on Feb. 15 in observance of President’s Day.
We had an exciting week in first grade. Last week, we learned about volcanoes, geysers, minerals and different types of rocks. We started a new skills unit. We learned about r controlled vowels and reading informational stories in our reader called “The Green Fern Zoo.” In math we learned about one more, one less, 10 more and 10 less of any given two digit number.
In second grade last week, we worked hard on ELA skills and three-digit subtraction. We looked forward to a long weekend to play and rest. We celebrated Valentine’s Day a little bit differently this year. We could not share cards and treats like usual, but our teachers made the holiday special with fun activities and treats for us.
In third grade we continued to learn about colonial times and how they compare to our lives now. We learned about fractions in math. We learned how to partition shapes to show a fraction. Students put fractions on a number line and a line plot. We hope to speak to our parents on Thursday for the Parent-Teacher Conference. Reminder that there is no school on Monday. We hope everyone has a wonderful Valentine’s Day!
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Makayah Hester, whose favorite book is the Bible and whose favorite food is a baked potato. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to Chrissy Carter. Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite food is a cheeseburger! We appreciate all that she does as our Cafeteria Manager.
Since it is winter, remember to label your child’s winter clothing items (jackets, coats, hats, etc.). We already have several jackets hanging on our lost and found rack. The Chester County School System is now recognized as a critical infrastructure. This policy now requires students third grade and above to wear masks.
It is important that we are able to contact you or a family member if your child is sick, injured, etc., or school is dismissed for inclement weather or other unexpected reasons. A pink Student Information Form has been sent home with all students for a parent/guardian to complete and return by Thursday. We need ALL students to return this pink form. District and school information is often shared through phone calls and/or Remind text messages. Therefore, please continue to keep this information up-to-date by contacting the school when changes are made.
