It was a great week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School! Read on to hear about the amazing things we are learning about!
Kindergarten had a great week back! Students continued to work hard on reading words with blends and digraphs, sentence writing, sight words, counting to 100 by 1s and 10s, and adding fluently. We are having fun celebrating Read Across America and Dr. Seuss this week with special dress up days and activities.
First graders worked hard learning about habitats in reading. They learned that all living things need water, food and air. The boys and girls also wrote opinion papers on their favorite activity to do in the snow. They worked on adding 10 to two-digit numbers in math.
This week in second grade, we are celebrating Reading Across America with lots of fun Dr. Seuss books and activities. We really have enjoyed dressing up and reading silly books. In math we measured objects using inches, feet and yards. Last week, we began using centimeters and meters. Measurement has been a fun topic in math that has us even measuring items in our homes.
In third grade, we have been having a blast with Read Across America week. We want to encourage our third graders to read with their parents at night to build fluency and comprehension. In reading we started an Ecology unit. Students learned about food chains and food webs this week. In math we continue to learn about fractions and parts of a whole.
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Isaac Whidden, whose favorite book is Martina Josafina Catalina Cucaracha and whose favorite food is steak. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to Teresa Lott. Her favorite books are Nora Robert books, and her favorite food is lobster! We appreciate all that she does as our fearless custodian!
Since it is winter, remember to label your child’s winter clothing items (jackets, coats, hats, etc.). We already have several jackets hanging on our lost and found rack. The Chester County School System is now recognized as a critical infrastructure. This policy now requires students third grade and above to wear masks.
It is important that we are able to contact you or a family member if your child is sick, injured, etc., or school is dismissed for inclement weather or other unexpected reasons. A pink Student Information Form has been sent home with all students for a parent/guardian to complete and return by Thursday. We need ALL students to return this pink form. District and school information is often shared through phone calls and/or Remind text messages. Therefore, please continue to keep this information up-to-date by contacting the school when changes are made. JOIN REMIND Messaging by texting the code below to 81010: @ccsdjces (Jack’s Creek Elementary) AND @ccsdist (Chester Co. School District)
