It was a fantastic week here as we finished up the month of April! Read on to hear how we conquered TCAP and keep learning!
Kindergarten had a fantastic week. Students continued to work hard on sentence writing and reading, sight words, counting by ones, 10s and fives. subtracting fluently and identifying coins. Students enjoyed practicing songs and preparing for our end of the year awards program.
First graders enjoyed the read-alouds and learning how our land first became a country. They continued to work on their opinion writing and soon will begin an animal research paper. Math involved fluently adding and subtracting within 20.
In second grade we wrapped up our TCAP and iReady testing. We are proud of how hard we tried, and we are happy they are done. In reading we will be reading the book Magic Tree House, Pirates Past Noon over the next few weeks. In math we reviewed second grade skills and became familiar with some third grade skills. This is exciting, as we are going to learn basics about multiplication. We were eager to enjoy a fun and relaxing weekend.
Our third graders are finished with testing! We are so proud of them for working hard and staying focused. In reading we began reading The Lemonade War. This is a great end-of-the-year novel that works on third grade skills. In math we learned strategies for solving word problems.
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Wesley Strickland, who says his favorite books are books about trains and his favorite food is pizza. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to Melinda Carroll. Her favorite book is Pollyanna, and her favorite food is Mexican food! We appreciate all that she does as our Librarian!

JCES yearbooks will be given out on Thursday, May 13, to students who pre-ordered. There is a very limited supply of extra yearbooks available for $15 (cash only) each; no holds, first-come, first-served.
We greatly appreciate all you have done to support our students and school during the 2020-21 school year. Even through the challenges related to COVID-19 pandemic, your continued support and encouragement has helped us stay the course and provide learning experiences for our students. It is such a joy and privilege to watch our students learn and grow at JCES!
This year, we will not be able to have a public-attended field day, BUT Coach Debbie is planning “field day” activities for our students to participate and enjoy. Please make sure your child dresses appropriately on the following days: K-first grade: May 19 and second–third grade: May 20. If you choose to send sunscreen, please be sure it is labeled with your child’s name.
Looking Ahead:
