What a wonderful week we had at Jacks Creek Elementary School as we have slowly gotten into the routine of learning and growing each day!
Kindergarten had a fantastic week! We learned about vertical and horizontal lines that will help us when we are writing letters, nursery rhymes and the color/color word blue. We practiced identifying and writing numbers and counting in math. We had picture day on Thursday.
First graders worked very hard this week. They enjoyed learning about fables and listening to the fable read alouds. So far, they have listened to “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” and “The Maid and the Milk Pail.” The boys and girls also wrote using the topic, “First Grade is Super Because.”
We are really getting into our second grade learning now! In Reading/ELA, we enjoyed getting to hear and read Fairy Tales, and we especially liked the magical parts of the stories. This week, we have moved on to Tall Tales and Legends, and we are learning about exaggeration. That should be interesting. We began our Spelling Lessons last week, so we will bring a list home each week to practice. We will have a pre-test on Thursday, and if we miss any words, we will be able to take the test again on Friday. In Math, our unit now is addition, so we are practicing daily to become more fluent with that. This means we want to add more quickly but also correctly. We really need to work on facts to 20. We are working daily to become better at listening, working and following school and classroom rules. We want to be “Second Grade Strong!”
In third grade, we continued to read “Wind in the Willows.” We began reading about Aladdin. We will learn about the characters and events in the story. In math, we continued to subtract across zeros. We hope to start multiplication this week, as well. In Social Studies, we continued to learn about landforms found in the world (basin, bay, mountains, etc.).
Our Beekeeper of the Week goes to Mollie Word, who says her favorite book is “Frozen” and her favorite food is pizza. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Beekeeper of the Week goes to Vicki Brower. Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite food is watermelon! We appreciate all that she does as one of our first grade teachers!
SCHOOL INFORMATION: Our new year is in full swing! We know that parents have had a lot of “homework,” reading a lot of information, filling out forms, etc. This information is very important; therefore, please feel free to contact the school if you have any questions. If there are forms that have not been returned, please send to school ASAP.
PSO Membership Drive is now-Sept. 8. We are thankful for our families and stakeholders in the community who supper JCES. Encourage family, friends and neighbors to become a member of the JCES Parent Support Organization. This is a great way for people in our community to invest in our students, the future leaders and citizens of Chester County. More details coming soon!
