What a wonderful week we had here at Jacks Creek Elementary School as we are almost done with the first month of school!
Kindergarten had a fantastic week! We learned how to make vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines, listened to count words in a sentence and tracked from left to right in reading. All of this is building us up to writing letters and beginning to read words on a page. We also learned several Nursery Rhymes, including “Baa Baa Black Sheep” and “Humpty Dumpty.” In math we counted groups of four and five, wrote numbers four and five and practiced counting to 20 making sure to not skip any numbers.
Our first graders continued their study of Fables. They learned that personification (animals acting like people) is another characteristic of fables along with fables are short and they teach a lesson. In writing the boys and girls wrote things about themselves. They will present their paper to the class so that we can get to know each of the boys and girls better. Math involved reviewing basic subtraction, beginning our math workbooks and learning to add using a number line.
In second grade we move from reading Fairy Tales to Tall Tales this week. We enjoyed hearing “The Fisherman and His Wife” and “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” and we expect exaggeration with Tall Tales to be a fun skill to learn about. In math we are practicing Even and Odd numbers and making Arrays to find totals. We are really looking forward to a long weekend with Labor Day since we have labored in class for the past five weeks! We hope everyone has a safe and healthy long weekend.
In third grade we continued to read “Wind in the Willows” and wrote an opinion piece on the theme shown. Many students chose to write about friendship/loyalty or irresponsibility. We began reading “Alice in Wonderland.” We wrapped up Classic Tales this week. We continued to learn the basic multiplication facts. This is a skill that is major in third grade. We will learn about major landforms around the world.
Our Beekeeper of the Week goes to Taylor Hemby, who says her favorite book is “Frozen” and her favorite food is pizza. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Beekeeper of the Week goes to Nancy Davidson. Her favorite book is “Jesus Calling,” and her favorite foods are shrimp and crab legs! We appreciate all that she does as one of our second grade teachers!
SCHOOL INFORMATION: Our new year is in full swing! We know that parents have had a lot of “homework,” reading a lot of information, filling out forms, etc. This information is very important; therefore, please feel free to contact the school if you have any questions. If there are forms that have not been returned, please send to school ASAP.
PSO Membership Drive is now-Sept. 8. We are thankful for our families and stakeholders in the community who supper JCES. Encourage family, friends, and neighbors to become a member of the JCES Parent Support Organization. This is a great way for people in our community to invest in our students, the future leaders and citizens of Chester County. More details coming soon!
