What a great week we have had here at Jacks Creek Elementary School as we continue to learn and grow every day!
Kindergarteners are learning to form letters using straight and curved lines. We are counting to 10 and learning how to write numbers 0-10. We can compare amounts of objects within five to tell which has more and which is less.
We have had a wonderful week in first grade. We continued reading “All Stories are Anansi’s” and then began learning about the human body. In the human body, we learned about the skeletal system. In our skills part of reading, we continued reading stories about Beth and Nat visiting the U.K., learned new tricky words such as was, why and when and reviewed nouns. In writing we continued writing sentences about various things. In math we continued learning about adding strategies and began learning about subtraction strategies.
In second grade we are learning different strategies to help us add numbers to 100. Hopefully, some of these will make addition easier when we are adding larger numbers. In ELA we are focusing on phonics and skills to improve our fluency and writing. Next week, we will be taking our CASE Assessment on Tuesday and Wednesday. We need to be at school on time and ready to do our best.
In third grade we continued learning about text features while reading about how animals are classified. This week we focused on the five groups of vertebrate animals: amphibians, mammals, birds, fish and reptiles. Ask me what makes a vertebrate animal different than an invertebrate? In math we wrapped up the foundations of multiplication and tested on factor number five. Next week, we will test on factor number three. This week we also introduced division. We made connections about how multiplication helps us understand division.
Our Beekeeper of the Week goes to Luke Verduzco, who says his favorite book is “The Gruffalo” and his favorite food is candy. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Beekeeper of the Week goes to Melissa Greenway. Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite food is Mexican! We appreciate all that she does as one of our interventionists!
JCES is a Title 1 School. What does that mean? Title 1 funds are used to support all our students (ex. purchasing educational materials and supplies, provide funds for supplemental staff and training, family engagement activities, etc.).
