We have had another great fall week here at Jacks Creek Elementary school as we learn and grow!
Kindergarten had a fantastic week back. A few skills we are working on include rhyming words, blending words to read, counting to 50 and writing numbers to 10. Thank you to everyone who participated in our parent teacher conferences. Students can participate in book character dress up day on Friday, Oct. 29.
This week, the first graders have continued their study of the human body. They have learned about germs and how important it is to wash hands because germs are everywhere. Also, our first graders are learning about common nouns and proper nouns. Math is still involving simple adding and subtraction using different strategies.
In second grade we are so excited to be back in school after a wonderful Fall Break! It is great to see our friends, teachers and staff learning again. In reading we are learning about cycles, including seasons, days, plants and animals. In math we are working on subtraction strategies now. We are also delving into science with learning about how Scientists work.
In third grade we started our Solar System Unit this week. So far, we have learned about the sun and the moon. Next week, students will make their own solar system at home and present it to the class. In math students were given a chance to retake any timed multiplication tests that they had not passed so far. This week, we introduced the distributive property of multiplication. The distributive property will help them take an unknown equation and break it down into facts they know to help solve it. As always, skip counting and multiplication is so important to practice at home. The more they practice, the more confident they will become.
Our Beekeeper of the Week goes to Harper Simon, who says her favorite book is “Uni the Unicorn” and her favorite food is pizza. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Beekeeper of the Week goes to Kady Powers. Her favorite books are the Bible, “Nibbles,” and “The Book Monster,” and her favorite food is Mexican! We appreciate all that she does as one of our first grade teachers!
PSO Membership drive was a success! We met our goal so students will have a Book Character dress up day on Friday, Oct. 29. Who is your favorite book character?
