It has been a great week at Jacks Creek Elementary School!
Kindergarteners are reading short texts daily to increase their fluency skills. We are printing all our letters of the alphabet and are working on spelling words on our own to build sentences. We are counting amounts of and writing numbers 11-20. We are continuing to count by 1s, 5s and 10s to 100.
We have had a great week in first grade. We continued learning about things in outer space such as the moon and eight major planets. In skills we learned the new sound /oi/ and read the fable “The Bag of Coins.” We learned that we should never steal, always share and do not be greedy. In math we continued working with subtraction word problems.
We have been working hard in second grade! Students continue to learn daily and have shown so much growth in reading in math since the beginning of the school year. We look forward to learning more with the weeks to come. We are fast approaching the 100th day of school.
In third grade we started a new unit on Native Americans. Students are learning about the different Native American tribes that settled in different regions in North America. We get to see how their lives were very different than ours based on their customs and cultural identity. In math we are wrapping up area and perimeter. Students have learned how to find the area and perimeter of different polygons and of odd looking shapes. In science we are learning about the different states of matter. We will do an experiment of the different states of matter at the end of the week.
The library classes are learning about famous African Americans who have made a positive impact on our country. We have read about Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges and Jackie Robinson. Kindergarteners are also learning about animals in winter.
Our Beekeeper of the Week goes to Alex Wilcox, who says his favorite book is “Clifford” and his favorite food is watermelon. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Beekeeper of the Week goes to Lauren Wood. Her favorite book series is “Harry Potter,” and her favorite food is steak! We appreciate all that she does as one of our Kindergarten teachers!
Labeling Items of Clothing: as temperatures continue to fall, remember to label your child’s winter clothing items (jackets, coats, hats, etc.). We already have a few jackets hanging on our lost and found rack.
Box tops are a super easy way to earn money for our school. Clip box tops or download the box tops for education app. Scan your receipts to earn free money for our school! It is that easy!
