It has been an interesting week here at Jacks Creek Elementary school as we faced all the rain this week. Even though we were not in school for that long we still learned some great things!
Kindergarten had a great week. Students are continuing to work hard on important skills, such as sentence writing, reading words with digraphs, sight words, counting by ones and 10s to 100, 3-D shapes, and adding fluently. This week, we are celebrating Dr. Seuss and read across America with special dress up days and activities.
First graders have continued to enjoy their study of the Earth during Read-Aloud time. They have recently learned about volcanoes and geysers. They are continuing to learn about the r-controlled vowels, and they are practicing reading words with the r-controlled vowels. Math has involved true and false equations.
We are having an eventful week in second grade at Jack’s Creek Elementary School. We are celebrating Read Across America Week by having special activities. We are continuing to read about our brave Sir Gus in reading. We are also learning about the westward expansion. In math we are learning to apply our knowledge of money by solving word problems. We have been working hard to learn our coin names and their value.
In third grade we are completing our CKLA unit on Colonial America. We will then start Ecology. This is a fun unit that students can relate to. This unit also hits many Tennessee State Science Standards. In math we are comparing fractions and testing over the unit. In science we are learning about magnets and how they work. Students will get to experiment with magnets. This week is Read Across America week. We have loved seeing everyone all dressed up and ready to read.
Our Beekeeper of the Week goes to Cole Ross who says his favorite books are Dr. Seuss books and his favorite food is strawberries. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Beekeeper of the Week goes to Robin Salvador. Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite foods are Mexican and sushi! We appreciate all that she does for our school as one of our interventionists!
In connection with Dr. Seuss-Read Across America, we will focus on literacy and reading at home from March 1-15. Students who (1) complete and return this log by March 15, (2) read at least one book independently and (3) read one book with a parent will earn a prize. For each kindergarten and first grade classroom, the student who reads the most books will earn a prize. For each second grade and third grade classroom, the student who reads the most pages will earn a prize.
Box tops are a super easy way to earn money for our school. Clip box tops or download the box tops for education app. Scan your receipts to earn free money for our school! It is that easy!
