It has been an incredible week here at Jacks Creek Elementary school!
Kindergarteners are counting to 100 by ones, fives and 10s. They are using position words to describe shapes and where they are in the environment. They are reading words with digraphs ch, th and sh.
We have had a busy week in first grade! We have continued learning about animals and their habitats by learning about the tropical rainforest, freshwater habitats and saltwater habitats. In reading skills we have continued reading in our reader “Green Fern Zoo.” We read about reptiles and termites. We continued learning about reading two syllable words and words with r-controlled vowels. We also learned about adjectives, nouns and verb tenses. In math we worked on finishing up our counting sequences unit.
Second grade is so excited to have completed our Case assessments for the year. We will continue to work hard reviewing skills we have learned this year, so we will be ready for TCAP in April. We will enjoy our much needed spring break and come back to school prepared to finish out the school year.
In third grade we began our reading unit on Ecology. In this unit we will focus on determining the meaning of domain specific vocabulary. Students will be learning about relationships in nature and food chains. In math we learned how to classify quadrilaterals and assessed this new skill. Next week, we will begin our unit on elapsed time. We continue to test fluency with multiplication facts. As always, skip counting and multiplication is so important to practice at home. The more they practice, the more confident they will become.
Our Beekeeper of the Week goes to Bailey McClellan who says her favorite book is “Beauty and the Beast” and her favorite food is soup. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Beekeeper of the Week goes to the awesome Debbie Hames. Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite food is Mexican! We appreciate all that she does for our school as Physical Education Teacher!
