What a fantastic week we had here at Jacks Creek Elementary School as we follow our motto to “Expect, Believe and Achieve”!
Kindergarten had a great week! We continued to learn about blends and digraphs, counted to 100 by ones and tens and decomposed numbers into tens and ones. Our school pizza fundraiser will begin on Jan. 30 and continue until Feb. 14. More information about this will be sent home. Please continue to practice sight words each night as part of homework.
First grade studied habitats in reading and learned about why some species become endangered and why some could become extinct. First graders also had fun writing with a prompt that said, “If I Were 100 Years Old…,” for their 100th day of school celebration. Students worked with fact families in math and studied Martin Luther King, Jr. during RTI.
In second grade we enjoyed learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. this week. We even created our own informational story about him. We also studied other events in history such as The Revolutionary War and The War of 1812.
In third grade we continued our study of the establishment of the 13 colonies in reading. In connection to this, we learned the seven continents and five oceans. We learned many interesting facts through our reading as well as our Social Studies weekly newspapers!
In math we returned to the standards of finding the area of rectangles. We will continue reviewing perimeter as we move forward with the emphasis on area. Our teachers will soon be scheduling parent-teacher conferences for Feb. 13 (p.m.) and Feb. 14 (a.m.). Look for these notes in our folders soon.
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Curtis Strickland, whose favorite books are books about dragons and whose favorite food is chicken. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school!
Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to the awesome Debbie Hames! Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite food is spaghetti. We appreciate all that she does for our school as our Physical Education teacher.
Please collect Box Tops! Each Box Top equals 10 cents for our school. This is an EASY way for us to earn money for JCES! Our goal is to raise $700. Everyone can help us reach this goal!
Looking Ahead:
Jan. 30 – PSO Domino’s Pizza Fundraiser
Jan. 30-Feb. 14 – Domino’s Fundrasier
Feb. 6 – Progress Reports
Feb. 13-14 – Parent Teacher Conferences
Feb. 17 – President’s Day (NO SCHOOL)
