It was a great week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School!
Kindergarten had an awesome week. We continued to work on blends and digraphs, reading and writing sentences, finding middle and ending sounds, sight words, counting to 100 by 1s and 10s, fluently adding and decomposing numbers into 10 and some 1s. Do not forget about our Domino’s pizza fundraiser going on through Feb. 14. We look forward to seeing everyone at our parent teacher conferences on Feb. 13 and 14.
In second grade we created our own business and “sold” items to our classmates using the math skills we have learned over the last few weeks. Some of the items sold were pretend Pokémon cards, sunglasses, ice cream and classroom geoboards. The students had a blast!
In third grade we continued with our unit about the 13 colonies. We learned much about the Southern colonies and what contributed to their successes and downfalls. We were intrigued by the mysteries of Roanoke; what really happened to those who tried to establish that island as a colony? We enjoy the addition of our Social Studies newspapers and the online activities which accompany the papers. They go along with our reading lessons about the colonies and are a fun way to reinforce the ideas we are learning. In math we tried to wrap up our lessons on finding area using the distributive property. This is a tough skill, but we are working to master it. Do not forget about Parent-Teacher Conferences coming up on Thursday, Feb. 13, and Friday, Feb. 14.
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Macyn Davis, whose favorite books are books about tigers and whose favorite food is pizza. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to the wonder woman Nancy Davidson! Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite food is nachos. We appreciate all that she does for our school as one of our third grade teachers.
Please collect Box Tops! Each Box Top equals 10 cents for our school. This is an EASY way for us to earn money for JCES! Our goal is to raise $700. Everyone can help us reach this goal!
Our yearbook sale is Feb. 10-March 4. Cost is $15. Please send payment in an envelope or plastic sandwich bag labeled with your child’s name and “Yearbook Money.”
Valentine’s Day is on Friday, Feb. 14, and there is NO SCHOOL due to Parent Teacher Conferences. Classrooms will not have parties; however, students are welcome to bring in valentine’s cards and/or treat bags for classmates on Thursday, Feb. 13. Please do not send flowers, balloons, stuffed animals or other items to school. These can not be taken on buses. We greatly appreciate your cooperation.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are from 5-8 p.m. Feb. 13 and from 9 a.m.-noon Feb. 14. Please make every effort to attend. Our goal is 100 percent participation!
PSO Domino’s Pizza Fundraiser is Jan. 30-Feb. 14.
We will have no school on Presidents’ Day Monday, Feb. 17.
