It has been a great week at Jacks Creek Elementary School as we were energized and ready after a wonderful spring break! Read on to hear what exciting things we have done as we prepare for testing!
Kindergarteners are writing short narratives and using all types of punctuation. We are reading short stories and answering questions about what we read. In math we are decomposing numbers to 10.
First graders have been working hard these few days that we have had this week learning about Habitat Destruction and Endangered Species during our read-aloud time. They have learned that due to cutting down trees, starting forest fires and dumping dangerous waste and chemicals into our rivers people’s actions can endanger lots of species of plants and animals. Sometimes people’s actions destroy entire habitats. First graders are working on an opinion writing that is entitled “The Best Kind of Candy,” and counting to 120 by twos and 10s.
In second grade we have been reviewing our standards for ELA and Math to be ready for TCAP next week. We want to do our best next week on testing! Mr. Buckley has challenged us, and we want to prove that we are ready for third grade! We have enjoyed having our FHU Practicum students teach in our classes, and we know they are going to be amazing teachers! Watch for our mid-nine weeks Progress Reports that will go home on April 19. They should look great!
This week has flown by so quickly for third grade. We are nearing the finish line. This week, we have been getting prepared for our TN TCAP assessment. In math we have worked hard on Data and Graphing. The kids are enjoying this Unit. We also are looking forward to enjoying Making Music presented by the students from Freed-Hardeman University. Third grade is rocking it!
Our first student spotlight of the week goes to Valeria Martinez whose favorite food is pizza and favorite books are books about cats. Our second student spotlight of the week goes to Alixis Wise whose favorite food is sushi and favorite book is “Cat in the Hat.” We are proud to have these students shine brightly at our school!
