Jacks Creek Elementary School Newsletter
It was a great week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School, as we have gotten back in routine!
Kindergarten had a fantastic week. We celebrated 100 days of school on Friday with special activities and dressing up as 100 year olds or wearing 100 day shirts. We learned all about seasons and weather in science. A few skills we worked on are reading and writing sentences, doing blends, counting by 1s and 10s to 100 and decomposing numbers. Please continue to practice sight words each night as part of homework.
We had a busy and exciting week in first grade! We had so much fun celebrating the 100th day of school this week. In our celebration we wrote about what it would be like to be 100 years ago, and students gathered up 100 objects at home for math activities. In reading we continued learning about animals and various habitats around the world. In math we finished learning about tables and graphs.
In second grade we were excited to celebrate 100 days of school by dressing up as 100 year old men and women on Friday. Daily in class, we have been counting coins and using context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words as well as writing informational paragraphs.
In third grade we began our unit on the 13 American Colonies in reading. We will learn more about each colony over the next weeks, and we will be writing about them as well. In math we wrapped up our unit on finding perimeter and attributes of plane shapes. We will now return to complete our unit on finding area, specifically, the distributive property of multiplication. This is a more difficult skill in math, but we will get this mastered soon. Please continue to help us practice multiplication and division fluency at home and check our folders daily. We were excited to celebrate 100 days of learning fun in third grade! Fourth grade is getting closer and closer!
Last week’s Farmer of the Week goes to Harper Simon, whose favorite book is Peppa the Pig and whose favorite food is pizza. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to Melissa Greenway! Her favorite books are the Bible and Dr. Seuss, and her favorite food is Mexican food! We appreciate all that she does for our school as one of our interventionists!
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Daniel Jones, whose favorite book is “Jonie and the Beast” and whose favorite food is strawberries. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to Regina Karnes! Her favorite books are the Bible and the Tucker series, and her favorite food is Mexican food. We appreciate all that she does for our school as Special Education teacher.
We are proud to announce that Hailey Thomas is our JCES 2019-20 Teacher of the Year! Hailey has taught at JCES for three years and is very dedicated to her students! We appreciate her hard work and the love she shares with her students!
Please collect Box Tops! Each Box Top equals 10 cents for our school. This is an EASY way for us to earn money for JCES! Our goal is to raise $700. Everyone can help us reach this goal!
Each student recently took home a booklet containing several pages where parents can assist students with writing an address of each page. Students will receive prizes for each completed booklet. Every page must be complete for the student and the school credit. This is an easy way for the school to receive funds. All profits will benefit our students and our school. Thanks for taking a little bit of time to help.
Looking Ahead:
Jan. 30 – Feb. 14 – PSO Domino’s Pizza Fundraiser
Feb. 6 – Progress Reports
Feb. 13-14 – Parent Teacher Conferences
Feb. 17 – President’s Day (NO SCHOOL)

We are proud to announce that Hailey Thomas is our JCES 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year!
