Greetings from Hickory Corner!
School is back in session! A huge shout out to all the teachers who worked hard preparing for the school year. Wishing all the teachers and kids a wonderful school year!
I had more company from Illinois. My daughter Cindy and granddaughter Makenzie arrived last Tuesday. Also my grandson Matt, Michaela and their dog Crosby from Chicago surprised me the next day. We decided to shop and support some local businesses. We stopped in at Merle Norman, and we all found something to buy and then went on to Hello Georgeous, and Cindy found a cute top there. The owner, Amy, was so sweet and helpful, and I promised her a birthday shout out. Happy Belated Birthday, Amy! We spent another day shopping local antique shops and found some good things and then had supper at the Chow Wagon. Please make sure you support our businesses and shop local. It was a very hot week, but we managed to still get out and enjoy ourselves.
Want to hear something embarrassing but funny? Matt had some snacks sitting on the kitchen counter, and I decided to try one that said peanut butter and looked like tiny gingerbread men. I popped one in my mouth and chewed a moment and then gagged and spit it out. I told the kids that it tasted nasty. They all started laughing, and Makenzie told me, “Granny, you just ate a dog treat!” Yuck! Thankfully, it was made with all natural ingredients. Woof, Woof!
I am lucky to have a sweet friend and neighbor, JoAnn Clayton. She gave me some frozen homemade biscuits and homemade muscadine jelly to have while the kids were here. Sure made for an easy breakfast! Thanks, JoAnn!
There will be an ice cream social at the HCC center at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14. Members will furnish the ice cream. Please bring finger food and bingo prizes. Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the fun and fellowship. Come on out!
