Hello to everyone! It is great to be with you on this last week of November. For this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. I hope each and every one of you had a wonderful week. You know I love this time of year like so many of us do – when families come together and have a wonderful blessed time. On March 19, 2018, the Lord called my mother (Mrs. Annie Clay) home to be with Him. This year, I was in the kitchen, cooking and remembering all the good days we had doing the Holidays! I can still hear my mother’s voice telling me how to make that sweet potato pie. I do not know how your mother cooks, but my mother did not use a measuring cup or measuring spoons. Everything was by look, taste and feel. For anyone who had eaten some of mother’s food, you know it was soooooooooooo good; every time she cooked, it always tasted the same. We are blessed to have so many great memories! We had a great Thanksgiving celebration this year. Mother’s sister Auntie Betty was with us; she is 81 years old! Our cousins from Memphis, brothers, sisters and the whole family were at my house. We laughed, cried, and hugged each other. Three years ago, we were not able to come together because of COVID. Yes, COVID and other diseases are still hanging around; some of us had our masks on, and some did not. It was a happy time! We had so many great memories!
This is a special time of the year when people in the U.S.A. can put aside differences and give thanks for what we do have. YES! I know so many are worrying about how they are going to get their children something for Christmas. I am thanking the Lord that I still have my children alive with me doing this season of our life. Do not forget Thursday, Dec. 1, is the date for our 2022 Henderson Christmas Parade, starting at 7 p.m. in downtown Henderson. Please dress warm, be safe, cover your mouth and nose, and be like a ninja (only see your eyes).
On Nov. 29, we celebrated our daughter Glorina Elam’s 44th birthday. She is a vegan, and I am going to make her a vegan cake! I will let you know next week how it tuned out. Pray for me!
I was sitting at the computer Monday just thinking about how fast this year has gone. By the time you read this hometown paper, we will have less than 30 days left in the year 2022. It would be so nice just to take it slow and easy; however, we can not because Christmas is only 24 days away. Some are making a list and checking it twice to make sure to buy the gifts for their loved ones. There are others who wish they had the paper and pen to make a list. This year if you are fortunate enough to be an angel to someone and help a family you know that has fallen on hard times, let us reach out to them and keep the Christ in Christmas alive.
Remember the Medicare open enrollment deadline is only a few days away (Dec. 7). You may be able to enroll in or switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, or you can drop your plan and return to Original Medicare. For more information, call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
The City would like to wish a Happy Birthday blessing to Mrs. Lillia Cawthon, Dec. 3; Stella Garland, Dec. 5; and Mary Ross, Dec. 8. We pray you will have many more.
On our prayer list: continue to pray for our loved ones who are in the hospitals, for those who are sick in their homes, for our children, teachers, families and for the men and women who are serving our country. Remember to pray for our United States of America.
The City would like to say Happy Birthday to Shalonda Burton who celebrated on Nov. 25. Happy Birthday to Eboni Burton on Nov. 25 and to Shameka Johnson Nov. 26. Shameka is employed with Southwest HRA Head Start as a Family Case Manager Coach. We pray that you will have many more.
Do not forget to patronize with our local businesses here in town during this holiday season; let us try to support our own as much as we can. If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your family, birthday, anniversary, announcements, and things happening in the City, I need to hear from you. Call me at 608-6132 and leave your message, or you may email me gloria__holiday@msn.com. HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
