Hello to the people of Chester County everywhere.
It is good to be with you today. The Lord has allowed us to be together one more time. For this is the day the Lord has made.
I hope you and the family had a wonderful Easter Sunday. Today, let us give shout outs to some of the most important people at this time doing the COVID-19 – those on the frontline in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, from health workers to public servants! To all of the letter writers who are giving hope, the cashiers keeping the economy moving, seamstresses making face masks and police officers helping to uphold the law of the land, thank you for your sacrifice, your hard work and long hours! We appreciate everything you do! We are going to follow rules to help make your job easier.
On Saturday, I received a phone call from a father who loves his daughter so much. You see I met this young lady 13 years ago; she was only four years old as she entered into head start with a smile on her face. Such a sweet and loving little girl. Her father, Charles Harris, shared with me about his “Lil Angel.”
“As I traveled over the numerous roads and highways on Thursday, April 9, I tried my best to stay safe from the scare of coronavirus and to be thankful for still being able to work and provide for my family. But never would I have thought that I would receive a call that would steal my heart and leave me feeling empty. I lost my angel. “Daddy’s chocolate Lil Angel,” is what I called her. Ashanti Posey Harris, my Lil Angel, passed away at 17. She kept me smiling; she loved to be silly, joked and kept everybody laughing. Her smile was big and bright and warmed the hearts of so many. She loved her basketball and her latest style of Jordan’s. She always dreamed big and looked forward to continuing playing basketball in college far away; of course, I wanted to keep her closer. She asked about taking a senior trip to Europe. I was uneasy and worried about her going. She worked as many hours as she could, saving to make sure she could go on the trip. She enjoyed every minute of traveling across seas. It was a life experience. I am so proud of how determined she was and so happy that she got to experience one of her dreams. She loved soul food, pickled okra, rabbit and country fixings. Her smile I will never forget, her will to go above and beyond will always stay in my heart and her hoop action is photographed in my brain forever. My forever baby girl, my ACE, my baller, my Lil Chocolate Angel…I do not understand, but I guess heaven needed another baller. Daddy loves you. Our family will need prayers and strength through this journey.”
As I read this, my eyes full of tears, I wondered why? However, there is one thing I do know: the Lord does not make no mistakes. Our Lil Angel will be missed but not forgotten. Our prayers go out to Charles Harris, grandmother Linda Harris and the whole family of Ashanti.
The city would like to take this time to wish all of our loved ones in the Henderson Health and Rehabilitation Center and Southern Oaks who had a birthday this week a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
