Hello to everyone! It is good to be here with you one more time. For this is the day the Lord has made, let us be happy in it and take things one day at a time.
Since the last time we were together, my family and I have been on a road trip. We took some of our young teens from our church to Washington, DC. The teens enjoyed visiting the Capitol, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King National Memorial, National Museum of African American, National Mall and King Dominion with a gospel concert. This trip was to remind the young people how important they are and that, whatever their dreams may be, they can come to pass. They enjoyed the trip.
The City would like to take this time out to thank Southwest Human Resource Agent for the outstanding job they have been doing this year with the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) to ensure that children continue to receive nutritious meals while school is not in session. Patti Pickler and her staff have gone way beyond the call of duty again this year. For some of our children, this could be the only meal they receive. If you are interested and want more information about the summer food program, please give Patti a call at 989-5111. Patti, thank you for feeding so many of our children this summer.
Have you been there yet? I am talking about our Henderson Farmers Market! It is open from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. every Friday. If you like fresh fruit and vegetables, you can pick them up there and so much more. I can remember when it started back in 2016. Who would had thought four years ago that we would be paying as much for food as we are? Shucks (a word my grandfather Henry Bass used to use back in the day) who would have thought that we would not be able to find alcohol, toilet paper or hand sanitizer?! A lot of us made our own hand sanitizer. I said that to say this – family and friends, it is time to get ready for the winter. When my mother Annie Clay or grandmother Zelma Bass would say that, we knew it was time to start CANNING. Stop at Gene Record Park, under the Farmers Market Pavilion and purchase what you need..
Well, it is almost here! The Back to School Bash will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, at Chester County Middle School. If your child needs school supplies, a backpack or school uniform for Chester County students, the place to be is Chester County Middle school. Hope to see you there! P.S. If you have used school uniforms that are in good condition, please bring them with you to donate.
Condolence to Larry Locke and family for the passing of his brother Roy Locke. He fought a long battle and won! May God’s peace be with you. Cherish the memories you created down through the years, and Roy will never be forgotten.
Everyone at Southern Oaks is having a wonderful summer and hope that you are also. Each week, the residents have many different activities to choose from and enjoy. On Sunday afternoon, they had the privilege to have First United Methodist Church conduct their worship service. Monday began with exercise followed by a trip to McDonald’s for ice cream and a ride to Chickasaw State Park. The view at the Park was so beautiful. Thank you, Mrs. Phyllis LeCornu, for stopping by on Tuesday and calling the numbers for our favorite game – BINGO! It was lots of fun. The residents went for a ride in the country on Wednesday morning, and in the afternoon, they enjoyed singing with Mr. Virgil Hooks. It was just a very easy Wednesday. Mrs. Janice Haithcoat stopped by to visit with her friends Thursday, and they enjoyed her singing. In the afternoon everyone enjoyed a ride in the country with a stop at Ada’s The Unusual Country Store for some cheese. It was so gooood! Friday, they continued their trip through the states with a stop at Nevada and had fun at Chickasaw State Park with ice cream in the afternoon. The residents ended the week with the movie, Faith like Potatoes. If you enjoy reading about Southern Oaks, please take a few minutes to visit their Facebook page and see all the pictures of their activities.
On July 18 someone is celebrating her sixth birthday. Desaraye Genesy, your Nana, Sweet Papa, Eboni Burton (mother), Destyn, Danyelle and your great-grandparents John and Lillia Cawthon want to wish you a happy birthday!
Please continue to pray for the President of the USA
