Hello to everyone!
As always, it is good to be here with you another week, and I count it as a blessing because you know this is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Even as we face challenges each day of our lives, just remember there is always someone else that is worse off. We must wait on the Lord, we must be of good courage and we must know the Lord will strengthen our heart.
Aug. 10 was the first day of school for so many. Teachers and students will be in the classrooms for the very first time since March. We pray for their well-being and hope their first week of school will be a great one and the rest of the year will be a blessing also.
Well, our local county election has come and gone. The city of Henderson says, “Congratulations to all”! It was a great race.
The city would like to say happy 45th wedding anniversary to Mr. Jerry Wilson and Mrs. Shirley (Prather) Wilson; they celebrated on Aug. 8. Jerry and Shirley, congratulations! As I always say, remember to keep the honey in the moon! It just gets sweeter and sweeter as the years go by!
The City of Henderson’s deepest condolences go out to the family of Charlie Currin. We are praying for you. We also had another dear friend of the city pass. Our deepest condolences go out to the family of James Curtis Cawthon. We will miss them both, and we are praying for the family.
On the birth list for this month: the city would like to wish Mr. Larry Kelly a happy birthday on 8/11. Happy birthday to my nephew Cliff Brown on 8/18, my-great nephew Justin Barham (11) on 8/12, Phyllis Massengill on 8/13 and Tapeka Wilson (42) on 8/19. May the Lord bless you with many more to come.
Just to let the community know: the Southwest Human Resource Agency has been awarded several grants to help our communities during this COVID-19 outbreak. Southwest HRA will utilize the CSBG Cares funding by providing mortgage assistance to households in danger of eviction or foreclosure who have experienced a decrease in income due to COVID-19. Assistance can be provided for one month’s rent or mortgage payment not to exceed $1,200. There is also food vouchers that can be provided to eligible households with a maximum assistance of $300; now, this is based on the size of the household. If you or someone you know could benefit from this program, call the Community Service Center at 989-3879 for more information.
The Southwest HRA Food Service Program did an outstanding job this year, making sure the children and the elderly received nutritious meals during this COVID-19 outbreak. Thank you and we appreciate your hard work! Thank you for feeding our community. Southwest HRA has so many other programs for the community. Stop by the office on 1527 White Ave. and pick up one of the brochures. It could be something in there for you.
To the people of Henderson and around the world, yes, I said, “Around the world,” I want to THANK YOU for reading our news because you do not have to. It is a blessing to hear from you.
On the prayer list, my auntie Betty (Bass) Williams. Continue to pray for the ones who are sick in their homes, for our children, teachers and families, for the men and women who are serving our country and for the incarcerated. Let us not forget those families COVID-19 has affected! That would be everyone!
