Hello to everyone! It is great to be with you on the first week of December. Please forgive me; I am not as young as I used to be! With the holidays and everything, I missed the deadline for getting the article in on time to the paper last week. Before anything else is said, let us do this: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 reads, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” I hope each and everyone had a wonderful week.
You know I love this time of year like so many of us do, when families come together and have a wonderful bless time. On March 19, 2018, the Lord called our mother home to be with Him. This year, I was in the kitchen cooking and remembering all the good times we had doing the holidays! I can still hear my mother’s voice telling me how to make that sweet potato pie. I do not know how your mother cooked, but my mother did not use a measuring cup and no measuring spoons. Everything was by look, taste and feel. For anyone who had eaten some of Mother’s food, you know it was soooooooooooo good every time she cooked, and it always tasted the same. We are blessed to have so many great memories!
I pray that you had a safe and blessed Thanksgivings. We just had the household, and we celebrated our daughter Glorina Holiday’s 42nd birthday. She is a vegan, and she loves cheese cake! So we had a vegan dinner, and I made her a vegan cheese cake. It was very GOOD! And she enjoyed it.
This is a special time of the year when the U.S.A. can put aside it’s differences and give thanks for what we do have. YES! I know 2020 has been a hard year for some of us with the coronavirus attacking our families or the family of someone you know. Even with that, we still have so much to be thankful for.
To the Pack/Croom family: “I am proud to have known a woman by the name of Mrs. Olivia Pack Croom! She was a friend, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandchildren, auntie and sister-in-law. Mrs. Olivia attended school in the Chester County School System. She worked at Chester Manufacturing for 34 years and a day care center for 10 years and was a Foster Grandparent with Southwest Human Resource Agency for 20 years working at the Head Start Center and one year at East Chester Elementary School. She was recognized by Southwest Human Resource Agency for being a dedicate volunteer not missing any days until she was hospitalized. I can truly say that Mrs. Olivia loved people, especially children!”
I can remember her walking down the halls of Chester County Head Start. She would take 10-15 steps to my one-two steps. She was a woman on a mission! I called her the energized little bunny rabbit! She will be missed but not forgotten. The city of Henderson sends our deepest condolences to the Croom and Pack family. There are no words to tell you how sorry we are. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Do not forget that Thursday, Dec. 3, is the date for our 2020 Henderson Christmas Parade. It will start at 7 p.m. downtown Henderson. Please dress warm, be safe, cover your mouth and nose and be like a ninja. I should only see your eyes!
Let’s not forget about our soldiers. I can remember what it was like when I was on activity duty and away from family and the ones you loved so much. Traditionally, our senior leaders serve dinner to junior personnel on Thanksgiving, when possible. It did help the newly enlisted service-members who may be away from home for the first time. It was not like being at home, but it was our Thanksgiving meal. We prayed and gave thanks for all we had. We also prayed for our families. So to all of our soldiers celebrating Thanksgiving away from home, we do appreciate you. Thank you for your service, and we pray you had a bless Thanksgiving Day!
Please keep Mr. Jimmy Ruth in your prayers. Pray that the Lord will heal his body from the sickness he has and for Mrs. Linda Swafford. Continue to pray for our loved ones who are in the hospitals and those who are sick in their homes, for our children, teachers and families and for the men and women who are serving our country. Let us not forget to pray for OUR UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

On the last day in November, I was sitting at the computer just thinking about how fast this year has gone. By the time you read this hometown paper, we will have less than 30 days left in the year of 2020. It would be so nice just to take it slow and easy. However, we can not because Christmas is just a few weeks away. Some are making a list and checking it twice to make sure to buy the gifts for their loved ones. There are others who wish they had the paper and pen to make a list. This year if you are fortunate enough to be an angel to someone and help a family you know that has fallen on hard time; let’s reach out to them and keep the Christ in Christmas alive.
