Greetings from the City.
This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. No matter what life brings us, we always have something to be glad about. Do not worry about what we do not have, but be happy for what we do have. While you are reading this article, stop and take a moment to pray for the families that are homeless, have no food or are sleeping under bridges or on sidewalks, thousands of U.S. Troops who are away from home for the holidays and the mom and dad that do not know where their child is. I often think about the mom and/or the dad who may have lost their child/children or loved one in some type of shooting or some type of tragedy. Not only that, have you thought about the families that have lost a family member because of the coronavirus pandemic. I think about our essential workers who are praying they will not take this disease to their family and loved ones
Think about those families when you are worrying about what you do not have for your child/children on Christmas or what you do have for them on Christmas. We are so blessed! This month is a special month. It is the month that we will be celebrating the birth of Jesus. Let’s keep the love of Christ in our hearts as we spread that love to others. Let us remember those hurting or those who are less fortunate than us and reach out a kind helping hand to those in need. Sometimes all it takes is a kind word, small gesture or a lovely smile to brighten someone’s day. So let us remember others.
To the Henderson/Chester County Chamber of Commerce, thank you for all of the hard work you do for our city. Thank you for the Christmas parade. So many children and family members who did attend the parade even during this COVID-19 pandemic were telling me how much they enjoyed it. Here is what one parent told me about the Christmas parade:
“The night was cold, but the streets were packed. We were able to find a safe quiet corner to ourselves to protect us from coronavirus. We kept our masks on to protect us from those who were not wearing, which were quite a few, but it didn’t keep us from spreading the Merry, Merry Christmas cheer. The parade started strong with a line of first responder’s law enforcement, ambulance services, and the fire departments. The parade continued with bands, old school cars with a mix of new school cars, trucks and Jeeps. Southwest Electric and Hi-way wrecker brought out the big trucks.”
She and her children loved seeing all the old time tractors and lawnmowers. She let me know that, generally, Christmas parades have all kinds of pretty floats so we can see which is the most creative. But because this year has been so different and difficult, floats were not the highlight, but that did not stop Mickey and Minnie from greeting us again this year with about four other floats brave enough to face such a cold night. She can not forget the high stepping horses. Beautiful job, Chester County, for a parade filled with lights and music to bring joy to us all! In her last statement, this is what she said, “Next year, we challenge you to be more cheerful and grateful for the blessings God gives us each day by just saying Merry, Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays; you’ll be amazed in the change of the atmosphere!” I did ask others, but this one stood out!
The City of Henderson would like to say congratulations to all of winners and thank you for all of the entries. Chamber, keep up the good work because so many do appreciate you!
On a sadder note, another pioneer has served her time here on this earth. She was the mother of Robert A. Bass, Zelmar V. Bass, Albenda Bass White and the late Narvenda and Eddie Bass – Mrs. Georgia Bass. The city of Henderson sends condolences to the family. We, (I) will miss her so much. She and I shared the same birthday date, Oct. 26. I always would tell her that we are twins from another mother and year. She would always laugh and say, “Yes, we are.” Aunt Georgia will be missed but not forgotten!
Our condolences go out to a dear friend of our Margaret Locke and family.
Her sister Joyce Mathis another loved one who has served her time here on earth. It is hard to give up a loved one, but I know the Lord will give us the strength to take one day at a time. The city of Henderson loves you and will have you all in our prayers.

On the Birthday list this week: my daughter Maria Holiday, Dec. 22, and my mother-in-law Henrietta Holiday, Dec. 21. She will be 88 years young.
On the prayer list this week: Ms. Linda Patterson, Jimmy Ruth, David Swafford, and the family of David. Our loved ones who are in the hospitals or sick in their homes, for our children, teachers and families and for the men and women who are serving our country. Remember to pray for our United States of America.
