Greetings to the People of Chester County everywhere. For this is a new week, and we only have one more full week left in January, so let us give thanks to the Lord for all He has done for us in this week. For this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!
Last week I did not write anything for the column because of what happened on Jan. 6 – the riots at U.S. Capitol. After serving in the Marine Corp for 21 years, it made me sick to see people of the U.S.A. behave like they did. It was worse than 9/11. Why do I say that? Because they were from the U.S.A.! But you know what I did? I prayed for everyone in the Capitol. I prayed that the Lord would help them all!
After all of that, there are still a lot of good people in this world. I was in the line at Wal-Mart, and there was an African-American lady paying for her groceries and behind her was an elderly white couple. The African-American lady told the casher to add their groceries to hers. The white couple said, “You did not have to do that.” The lady said, “Yes, I did; now you can just pass it on.” I thought that was so nice and kind.
On Monday, most of us we enjoyed the day off from work and school because of Dr. King. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who was an influential American civil rights leader. He is most well-known for his campaigns to end racial segregation on public transport and for his fight for racial equality in the United States. His most famous address was the “I Have a Dream” speech during the march for jobs and freedom in Washington, D.C. on Aug. 28, 1963. He was an advocate of non-violent protest and became the youngest man to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. We must keep the dream alive, and with how the U.S.A. is today, we can not allow the DREAM to die.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Black History Program had to be cancelled. There had been 34 years of celebrations, and this was the first year we did not have the program. Every year, from the speakers to the choir, it was a blessing. Mr. Welch and his staff did an outstanding job every year! Mr. John Welch and his staff would like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting the program throughout the years. Next year, the Lord willing, there will be a program, and I am looking forward in having it!

Our condolence to the Mr. Horace Alfred Croom, Jr. family and the Mr. J. P. Davis family. There are no words to tell you how sorry we are. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
On our prayer list this week: Mr. Silas Burton, Taylor Burton, Mr. and Mrs. Overway, Mayriene Moten, those who are in the hospitals or sick in their homes, for our children, teachers and families and for the men and women who are serving our country. Remember to pray for our United States of America.
