With Gloria Holiday
Hello to everyone! It is great to be with you on this first week of December. I do apologize for not having a column for last week. My husband Frank took me on a cruise for my 65th birthday, and we were out of the country for some R&R. No cell phones or computers! Sylvia and her husband Marles also was with us to celebrate her 58th birthday. We had a wonderful time in Florida and on the Islands.
Before anything else is said, let’s do this: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 reads, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” I hope each and everyone had a wonderful week. You know I did! I love this time of year when families come together and have a wonderful blessed time.
We were so blessed to have our family with us. Yes, there were some empty seats at the table because the Lord loved our family members and decided it was time for them to come and be with Him. There is one thing I can say – we still have those great, sweet memories with our loved ones! Mother (Annie Clay) would have been 85 years old this year. Even now, when I am in the kitchen cooking, I still hear her little voice giving us instruction on what to do and how she wants it done. As usual, we will just say, “Yes, ma,” and make sure it is the way she wants it. That is why I am the cook and the woman I am today. Now, my brother Denis can make mother’s dressing, and it tastes just like hers. Sylvia has the chess pies that tastes just like mother’s, and I have everything else! We brought everything together just like you and your family did and had a blessed time because we have so much to be thankful for!
The City would like to let all of our soldiers that celebrated Thanksgiving away from home know that we love and appreciate you! Thank you for your service, and I pray you had a blessed Thanksgiving Day!
While finishing this column, I thought about how fast this year has gone. We have less than 30 days left in 2019. It would be so nice just to take it slow and easy. However, we cannot because Christmas is only 20 days away. I hope most of you have finished your shopping and can relax and enjoy the holidays. We do not have our Christmas tree up yet. While we are getting ready for the holiday, let us remember the ones that are less fortunate than we are. We all can do something special for someone!
The annual Henderson Christmas Parade will start at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 to get our Christmas spirit in high gear. I hope you will come out, and if you have children, bring them to enjoy the parade.
Do not forget to email Santa your Christmas letters at santaletters@chestercountyindependent.com or mail to Chester County Independent, P O. Box 306, Henderson, TN 38340 by Dec. 9. Get those letters to Santa. If you decide not to mail or email Santa, just drop it by the newspaper office, 218 S. Church St., between the hours of 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. A copy of your child’s letter will be printed in the Christmas week edition on Dec. 19. So get those letters in to Santa! It will be so amazing for you as the parent/guardian to read your child’s letter to him/her.
Our condolence goes out to the Porter/Flowers family; there are no words to tell you how sorry we are to hear about your loved one. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Praying for peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts. On Nov. 26, Danny Brown would had been 62 years old. To his children and family, it is a hard time for you during this holiday season, but we are praying for you.
The city would like to give a SHOUT OUT to one of the most well-known persons in Chester County: Chester County High School Principal, Dr. Ricky Catlett. He believes that there can be productive partnership with parents and that the students can achieve their highest potential. He recognizes that in order to be successful in school our children need support from both home and school. His goal is to build a sense of community and trust between children, parents, and staff. Every year, Dr. Catlett would always have his high school students serve lunch to all the Veterans and their families on Veterans Day in the high school cafeteria. So many of us, the Veterans, missed having it there this year! Thank you for having a caring heart for the Community, your staff, your students, your family and God. Keep up the great work you are doing here in Chester County and abroad. If anyone has a person you would like to give a SHOUT OUT to, please give me a call.

The City would like to say happy belated birthday to Shalonda Burton on Nov. 25, Eboni Burton on Nov. 25, my daughter Glorina Holiday on Nov. 29, and Shameka Johnson on Nov. 26. Shameka is employed with Southwest HRA as a HeadStart Family Case Manager. The City would like to wish a Happy Birthday blessing to Mrs. Lillia Cawthon, Dec. 3, Stella Garland, Dec. 5, and Mary Ross, Dec. 8. We pray that you will have many more.
