Hello to everyone! Greetings from the City. “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
The Lord has allowed us to see a new month. April is gone, and the month of May is here. The wild flowers are blooming, and the trees and grass have turned green. Many birds have built their nests, and mother birds are sitting on the eggs, which will soon hatch. Speaking of hatching, my mind goes back many years ago when life was so different. There was a Head Start teacher by the name of Mrs. Lind Swafford. She was the senior teacher at that time. Many of you could have had a child in her classroom, or maybe you were that child in here classroom. Linda would bring her incubator and eggs into the classroom for each child to see how baby chicks develop inside the egg. The experience was very exciting for the parents and child. After 21 days, each child got their very own baby chick to take home with them and to care for. The children were so happy to receive their very own baby chick at the end of the school year.
This school year will soon come to a close. It was a wild roller-coaster ride this year with the virtual and classroom classes, but we made it! The City of Henderson would like to say thank you to every educator that had a part in teaching our children. Parents, thank you for being there for your children to help them also!
The most important day for the month of May is Mother’s Day. The word of God reads in Exodus 20:12, “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.” Mother’s Day is always on the second Sunday of May. This coming Sunday is Mother’s Day. As a mother myself, I know motherhood is an overwhelming mixture of joy, happiness, fear and anxiety all rolled into one swelling heart. You must have what is called unconditional love. I am a grandmother and a great-grandmother, and I enjoy every minute of it.
You know what? If I had not had a GREAT example in my life of what a mother should be, I would not be the mother that I am! My mother, Mrs. Annie Clay Brown, taught me how to be the person I am today. She taught all of her children and other children in the community also. My mother was kind and compassionate to everyone. She also loved to cook and was a very good one! People would come from miles around to eat at the old restaurant in Henderson named The Skylark. Some of you may remember it from back in the day. Most of all, she was a woman that loved the Lord and set the example of a Holy woman. My mother is not with me on this earth, but she is with me every day of my life. I can not kiss her little soft jaws, give her BIG hugs, have those mother and daughter days out or go to her house and smell the food cooking on the stove; however, the family will go to her gravesite and place flowers on her grave. I will always miss and love her!
So on this Mother’s Day, remember your mother; do something VERY special on that day and every day of her life! The City of Henderson says to all mothers, “Have a HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!”
The city of Henderson gives condolences to the Goodlow family for loss of their loved one, Miss Tracy Goodlow, on Monday morning. Our prayers are with you, and we know the Lord will get your family through this sad time.
The City would like to say happy birthday for the month of May to my very own brother, Mr. Dexter Brown on May 11.
On the prayer list week is the Goodlow family. Continue to pray for the people who are in the hospitals, for the ones who are sick in their homes, for our children, teachers and families and for the men and women that are serving our country.
