Greeting from the City. This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. No matter what life brings us, we always have something to be glad about. Do not worry about what we do not have but be happy for what we do have. While you are reading this article, stop and take a moment to pray for the families that are homeless, have no food and sleep under bridges or on sidewalks, for the thousands of U.S. Troops that are away from home for the holidays and for the parents who do not know where their child/children are. I often think about the parents who may have lost their child/children or loved one in some type of shooting or some type of tragedy. Think about those families when you are worrying about what you do or do not not have for your child/children on Christmas. We are so blessed! So do not worry; be HAPPY!
This month is a special month. It is the month that we will be celebrating the birth of Jesus. Let us keep the love of Christ always in our hearts as we spread that love to others. Let us remember those hurting or less fortunate than us and reach out a kind helping hand to those in need. Sometimes all it takes is a kind word, small gesture or a lovely smile to brighten someone’s day. So let us remember others.
Shout Out to a very special lady! This weekend, there is a lady who celebrated her birthday. She was 91 years young. Each and every time I see this lady, it is a blessing to talk with her and listen to her story from down through the year. She was born on Dec. 8, 1928 when Calvin Coolidge was president; she has seen 16 presidents out of the 45. She can tell you a story about most of them. When she was 10 years old, she had to drop out of school and take care of her sisters and brothers while her parents were in the fields working. She learned how to sew with only a needle and thread by hand. They did not have a sewing machine. However, her little doll and siblings needed clothes, so she made them some. Today, she is still sewing, as she sits in her wheel chair. She also still quilts; everything she make is by hand. To see some of the things she has made is amazing. Mrs. Leler Kirksey/Mother Kirksey, we love you and pray you have many more years to continue what you love to do.
This week, I talked with Mr. Jimmy Ruth. He is still in Covington Convenient Care Center, 765 Bert Johnston Ave, Covington, TN 38019. He is doing well. He wants to hear from the people here in Henderson. We talked about his nephew Kyle Knote. Mr. Jimmy is so proud of him. He is in the Army. If you can, please send Mr. Jimmy a card or a letter. He said, “I would love to hear from someone.” The address above is where you can mail your cards or letters. It was great to hear his voice.
On the birthday list this week: To a great lady and friend, every time you see this beautiful lady, she always has a beautiful smile. Sally Cawthon celebrated her birthday on Dec. 8. I would tell you her age, but I did not get permission, but I want you to know she does not look her age! Happy Birthday to my daughter Maria Holiday on Dec. 22. Lordy, Lordy! I can not believe she will be 43. WOW! Where did the time go? My mother-in-law Henrietta Holiday celebrates on Dec. 21. She will be 87 years young. We pray that you will have many more.
On the prayer list this week: Mrs. Olivia Croom, Mrs. Dorothy Robinson, Mrs. Leler Kirksey, Mr. Jimmy Ruth, for others that are in the hospitals, for those that are sick in their homes, for our children, teachers and family and for the men and women who is serving our country. Remember to pray for our United States of America.
Do not forget to patronize with our local businesses here in town during this Holiday season; let us try to support our own as much as we can. If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your family, birthdays, anniversaries, announcements or things happening in the City, I need to hear from you.
