Hello to everyone! I hope you had a great week. For this is the day the Lord has made, be happy and enjoy it. Well, another month is on its way out, ending with fall celebrations like Halloween and Harvest Day. These are fun times for children, who can dress up in costumes, enjoy parties and eat yummy treats. These celebrations also provide a chance to give out healthy snacks and focus on safety.
The city wants every child, teenager, young adult and adult to be safe. Here are just a few tips for safety to add with your own while we are still in COVID-19. Halloween during a pandemic can be difficult to enjoy, but according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, there are steps to still partake in the fun, as we follow a few simple rules to make trick-or-treating safer: avoid direct contact with trick-or-treaters, give out treats outdoors if possible, set up a station with individually bagged treats for kids to take, wash hands before handling treats and wear a mask. Please walk with a trusted adult, check all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them. Eat only store wrapped treats. Avoid eating homemade treats made by strangers. Have a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see and others see you. Remember to walk and do not run from house to house. Only visit well-lit houses. Never accept rides from strangers. Look both ways before crossing the street. Walk on sidewalks whenever possible or on the far edge of the road facing traffic to stay safe. Use some reflective tape on costumes and bags to help drivers see you. Remember to limit the amount of treats you eat, be safe and have FUN!
On Oct. 30 the place to be is at Gene Record Park for Trails and Treats! Heather Griffin and the committee of the park want to offer a safe, fun event for families in the community. Candy will be given out and all activities will be during daylight hours starting at 4 p.m. The park will be closed to set up for groups starting at 2-3:45 p.m. Businesses participating will simply set up a booth or table to hand out treats. Bring the whole family and enjoy the fun! I will see you there. Let us have FUN and ENJOY!
There were wedding bells in the air! On Saturday, Oct. 23, Chevon Johnson and Alexis Davidson were united as one. The wedding day was perfect. The bride was extremely beautiful, and the entire wedding was gorgeous. The wedding was a ranch theme decorated with hay bales, sunflowers and rustic décor. The highlight of the wedding was to seeing the bride gallop up the dirt road on a horse. It was priceless. Congratulations to the bride and groom, and the Bumpass, Swafford, Davidson and Croom families. Mark 10:9 – “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” Your family and the City of Henderson pray that God blesses this union and that 50 years later the honey is still in the moon!
Do not forget about the FHU Rummage Sale Oct. 28-30. On Thursday and Friday doors will open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. On Saturday doors open at 7:30 a.m. until noon. There will be some great deals on Friday, Oct. 29 as it is Half-Price Day, and Saturday, Oct. 30, is “Fill-a-Bag” Day with 13- and 30-gallon bags available for $5 and $10. Come one, come all!
