Greetings to the People of Chester County everywhere. For this is the day the Lord has made, and I will rejoice and be GLAD in it! This is a new month and a new year. I am so glad the Lord allowed us to be to here one more year. So many families have lost loved ones from disasters – hurricanes, floods, fires, COVID, just to name a few. I am so thankful to the Lord for being with you in your home, at your job or wherever you find time to read the paper? It is just great to be part of your life.
I hope you are enjoying the New Year. January is here, and what does it bring to us? As the days get shorter and the temperatures get colder, we could all use a few extra reasons to celebrate in January. From holidays like New Year’s Day to National Cheese Lovers Day and National Pie Day, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy some warmth and cheer.
According to Christie Donnelly there are 31 Reasons to celebrate special days and unconventional holidays in January.
January 13 – National Peach Melba Day; January 14 – Organize Your Home Day; January 15 – Strawberry Ice Cream Day; January 16 – International Hot and Spicy Food Day; January 17 – Hot Buttered Rum Day; January 18 – National Gourmet Coffee Day; January 19 – National Popcorn Day; January 20 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day* (third Monday). On this day Americans honor Martin Luther King, Jr., the Baptist minister, activist and hero of the civil rights movement. Take some time to learn about his life, teach any children in your life about the importance of his work as a civil rights leader and reflect on all of his contributions to our society; January 21 – National Hugging Day; January 22 – Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day; January 23 – National Pie Day, ooh yea! From classic apple pie to chocolate pudding pie, there is truly a pie for every taste. Enjoy a slice today from your local bakery. Or try your culinary skills at baking a pie from scratch; January 24 – Cans Appreciation Day, I remember when we were children we use to collect coke bottles and go to Don’s Store to sell them!; January 25 – National Irish Coffee Day; January 26 – National Peanut Brittle Day; January 27 – Thomas Crapper Day, look him up to see what he did; January 28 – National Daisy Day; January 29 – National Puzzle Day; January 30 – National Croissant Day; January 31- Eat Brussels Sprouts Day. I hope some of the days put a smile on your face.
Thank everyone for the prayers you sent up for our daughter, LaWanna. Her heart is doing much better; all of the fluid is gone. To God be the Glory! She is getting strong day by day.
The City would like to say Happy Anniversary to a couple who most of us know very well. Most likely, she taught your child in Head Start. Mrs. Linda Swafford and her husband Glenn Swafford celebrated their wedding anniversary on Jan. 6. Linda and Glenn, keep the honey in the moon!
Well, winter is here! I am so glad it finally made it. I do not know if you noticed it, but some of the trees had started to get little bulbs on them because it felt so much like spring; maybe we will have an early spring!
Birthday list – James Webb, Jan 13, and a special young man, my friend John Cawthon, Jan. 14. We pray that you all will have many more and the Lord will continually be blessing you!
On our prayer list this week – Ms. Doris Arnold and The United States of America!
