Greetings go out to the people of Chester County everywhere. For this is a new week, and I give thanks to the Lord for being with you in your home, at your job or wherever you find time to read the Independent. It is just great to be a part of your life.
This week, I would like to encourage all of my friends – Black, White, Hispanic, etc. – to come to the Martin Luther King Day Program at 7 p.m. Jan. 19. Coretta Scott King said, “This is not a black holiday; it is a people holiday.” ATTENTION TO ALL! The location of the program has been changed. The new location will be in the City Hall, 121 Crook Ave Henderson,
Our little town is a family of love. Sure we have our ups and downs, but doesn’t every family? Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “Another way that you love your enemy is this: When the opportunity presents itself for you to defeat your enemy, that is the time which you must not do it. There will come a time, in many instances, when the person who hates you most, the person who has misused you most, the person who has gossiped about you most, the person who has spread false rumors about you most, there will come a time when you will have an opportunity to defeat that person. It might be in terms of a recommendation for a job; it might be in terms of helping that person to make some move in life. That’s the time you must not do it. That is the meaning of love.” What a powerful quote. If you can found time in your busy schedule, I hope to see you at the program on Jan 19.
Our condolences to the Bishop family. I wish we could take away your pain, but only God can do that. Just know that we are thinking about you and praying for comfort for you and your family. Mr. George Henry Bishop, Sr. will be missed but not forgotten. I believe all good men and women must take the responsibility to create a legacy that will move the next generation to a higher level. During Mr. Bishop’s 90 years here on this earth, he did that. George was such a generous person. We will all miss him, but his legacy will live on through all the great work he did.
Mr. Cecil Crooms is in recovery. He is doing very well. He is now in Henderson Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Croom, our prayers are with you! For we know you cannot keep a good man down! You will be back on your motorcycle and riding those horses soon!
The Chester County Senior Center, located at 247 E Main St., Henderson, would love for you to come and visit them. The center is open Monday-Friday, and there is always something exciting going on there. There will be some special January events at the center. If you would like to know what these special events are, you will have to go to the center.
Happy belated birthday to a very special young lady that keeps on moving Mayriene Moten on Jan 5. We hope you had a wonderful day.
Happy Birthday to Glenda Jewell on Jan. 20 and Jackie Herron on Jan. 22. We pray the Lord will bless you with many more.
On our prayer list this week: children, teachers, family, and the sick and shut in. Do not forget our military men and women, who are protecting our country, and the President.
