Greetings from Hickory Corner!
Masseyville Fire Department will have a fundraiser on Labor Day Monday, Sept. 5. There will be barbeque with all the trimmings. Also, there will be a silent auction, cake walk and drawing for a $100 bill, and much more. So folks, mark your calendars and come out to support the fire department. If you are unable to attend, please consider making a donation.
Random Act of Kindness: Wayne Patterson gave purple hull peas from his garden to me, Ellna Roland, JoAnn Clayton and Mary Patterson. I put six bags in the freezer. They will be good this winter. Thanks, Wayne and Peggy, for thinking of us. We all appreciate your kindness. Folks, do not forget to spread some kindness in our community and then let me know.
Mary Patterson celebrated her birthday Sunday, Aug. 4, with her daughter Brenda, who had her over for lunch. I know they enjoyed their day together.
Linda Byrd reports that she and Barbara Lathon are still laughing. Remember the song “Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer”? Their friend Peggy Siler got run over by a Christmas tree. She was moving around her seven foot tall tree when it fell on her. Her legs were all tangled up underneath the tree. She had a heck of a time getting out of from underneath it. Glad she is okay but too bad no one was there to video tape that incident! That would have made a good video for Funniest Videos.
I was fascinated with the news that on Aug. 6 a dog was found alive inside an underground cave in Missouri after she had been missing for almost two months. Abby was 13 years old and was discovered by people that were exploring the cave. She was in bad shape, but Abby is now back with her owner and recovering well. What a miracle! (St Louis Dispatch)
