Greetings from Hickory Corner!
We have had some nicer weather, not so hot and finally had some rain. I am thankful for that.
Prayers and thoughts to those in Texas where there has been historic flooding. The news reports that some parts received almost 15 inches of rain within 24 hours creating lots of flooding.
Bonice Martin reports her great-granddaughter, Kaley, recently graduated from nursing school. Sending congratulations to Kaley. You have chosen a good career. Nursing is one of the most beautiful professions and know you are making a difference in the life of others. Kaley’s cousins Zach and Chuck attended her graduation and also visited with Bonice.
There will be no meeting at the Hickory Corner Community Center this month. Next meeting will be in September.
My sister-in-law Ellna Patterson Roland and niece Brenda Bishop Berryman are home after a trip to Branson. Brenda’s brother Don Bishop and his wife Kerry were also there. Ellna said that it was amazing to see the live show “Jesus” at the Sight and Sound Theatre, which is known as the largest faith based live theatre in the country with locations in Lancaster, Pa., and Branson, Mo. They all enjoyed their trip.
Do not forget to mark your calendars for the Masseyville Fire Department fundraiser on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5. There will be barbecue with all the trimmings. Also, there will be a silent auction, cake walk, drawing for a $100 bill and much more. So, folks, mark your calendars and come out to support the fire department. You are needed for a successful fundraiser. If you are unable to attend, please consider making a donation.
Sympathy to the family of Arlin Porter. Arlin is the son of Artie and Pearl Porter and grew up around Hickory Corner Community. Also, sympathy to all those who have recently lost loved ones.
Remember in prayer Richy Butler, Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Peggy Lard, William and Eddie Luttrell and Donna Lynch. Continue to pray for each other, our country, and our world. If you would like to add or remove a name from our prayer list, please call me.
If you would like to rent the HCC Center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
I need all of your support for this article. Please call me with tidbits and news at 989-3315. You can share your vacations, birthday, anniversaries and much more.
With so much going on in our world and in many of our lives, sometimes it is hard to stay positive. I came across this poem while cleaning out papers: “Count your blessings instead of your crosses; Count your gains instead of your losses; Count your joys instead of your woes; Count your friends instead of your foes; Count your smiles instead of your tears; Count your courage instead of your fears; Count your full years instead of your lean; Count your kind deeds instead of your mean; Count your health instead of your wealth; Count on God instead of yourself.” (Author Unknown)
Make it a great week!
