Greetings from Hickory Corner!
We are coming up on Labor Day Weekend. Goodbye to August, and welcome to September. Another month that has gone too quickly. Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894 and is a time to honor the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity and well being. (www.dol.gov). The American worker is the backbone of our country. I hope most of you have the day off and can spend the day relaxing or spending time with family and friends.
Masseyville Fire Department fundraiser is this coming Monday on Labor Day, Sept. 5. There will be barbeque with all the trimmings. Also, there will be a silent auction, cake walk and drawing for a $100 bill, and much more. So, folks, mark your calendars and come out to support the fire department. You are needed for a successful fundraiser. If you are unable to attend, please consider making a donation.
National Dog Day was Aug. 26. It was founded in 2004 and is a day set aside to honor dogs and to rescue them from homelessness and abuse. Every day is a good day to adopt and rescue a dog. I treated my lab Ruger that day with lots of love and attention along with a special meal. He is my walking buddy. Dogs really are “man’s best friend.”
“He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worth of such devotion.” – unknown (quotesgram.com). Anyone want to share a story about their special friend? Call me!
I have company. My son Terry and his wife Jo are here visiting. Terry, as always, is staying busy working around the yard, fields and house. Jo and I have been running around doing a little shopping and stopping for a Frappe before coming home. Also their lab, Cooper, is here with them, so he and Ruger have been hanging out together. Ruger loves being with Cooper.
Remember in prayer Richy Butler, Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Peggy Lard, William and Eddie Luttrell and Donna Lynch. Continue to pray for each other, our country, and our world. Also, sympathy to all those who have recently lost loved ones. If you would like to add or remove a name from our prayer list, please call me.
If you would like to rent the HCC Center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
I need all of your support for this article. Please call me with tidbits and news at 989-3315. You can share your vacations, birthday, anniversaries, and much more.
Make it a great week!
