Greetings from Hickory Corner!
Hello Fall! Today (Monday) turned out to be a hot day. Summer is still hanging around as the temperature was in the 90s. Fall is here Thursday, so I hope it will kick summer to the curb. I am ready for some cooler temperatures. I look forward to the trees changing colors. Soon those green leaves will turn into beautiful colors of red, yellow and orange, proving that sometimes change can be good! It is also time for pumpkin everything, so looks like it is time for me to make some pumpkin muffins. What is your favorite part of fall? Call me and share.
There will be a meeting at the HCC Center at 6 p.m. this Thursday, Sept. 22. Plans will be discussed for an event to be held in October. All members are encouraged to attend and get involved in the planning. Hope to see you there!
Bonice Martin reports that she celebrated her birthday on Sunday, Sept. 18, with her family. She received many gifts and phone calls. It sounds like her special day was special. Love you, Bonice, and wishing you good health and another happy year.
I am seeing fewer hummingbirds at the feeders. One little “hummer” seems to be rude as it is in control of the feeder and chases other birds away. Most North American birds will soon be migrating south to spend winter in Mexico. I read that hummingbirds remember and can return to your feeder year after year. I will be looking for the bossy one next year. Can you believe those little birds can fly 22 hours non-stop? During migration, their heart beats up to 1260 times per minute, and they flap their wings an average of 50 times per second. Their nests are smaller than a half dollar and eggs are the size of a jelly bean. I am sure they will soon start their journey south and I will miss them. Just another one of God’s amazing creations (goodhousekeeping).
Remember in prayer Richy Butler, Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Peggy Lard, William and Eddie Luttrell and Donna Lynch. Continue to pray for each other, our country and our world. Also, sympathy to all those who have recently lost loved ones. If you would like to add or remove a name from our prayer list, please call me.
If you would like to rent the HCC Center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
News is short again this week. I need all of your support for this article. Please call me with tidbits and news at 989-3315. You can share your vacations, birthday, anniversaries, and much more. I need to hear from you.
Make it a great week!
