Greetings from Hickory Corner!
We honored Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday. I can not help but wonder what the great civil rights activist would think of our world today. I believe he would remind us that, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” So remember to love one another.
The HCC will have a monthly meeting at our Center at 6 p.m. this Thursday, Jan. 23. We would love to see all of you at our meeting as we will be planning our Valentine’s Day party and discussing future events. We need YOU so please come join us.
Ellna and W.T. Roland hosted some of the Patterson clan for lunch at their house this past weekend. Those attending were Barbara and Glenn Smith, Ann and Bob Morris, Pam Sanders Clayton, Jerry Hailey, Johnie Schultz and myself. We had a really good meal and had some great laughs as we walked down memory lane and looked at pictures from many years ago. Thank you, Ellna and W.T., for having all of us. I am very thankful for James’ family.
Remember those on our prayer list: Elvie Lee Sanders, Arlan Porter, Walt and Ann Bennett, Richy Butler, Ronnie and Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Mary Alice and Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Sue Greene, Jim Ruth, W.T Roland, Peggy Lard, William Maness, Buck Burkhead, and all the caregivers.
Hickory Corner extends sympathy and prayers to the family of Mrs. Gwen Weaver, wife of Paul Weaver. Gwen was a wonderful Christian lady who will be missed by her family and many friends.
Did you see on the world news last week where a lady in Pennsylvania recently celebrated her 106th birthday? Wow! Ms. Gertrude says that the secret to a long life is to have a good time, love everybody and dancing, a lot of dancing. Hey ladies, maybe we should get our dancing shoes on!
If you would like to rent the HCC center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
Please call me at 989-3315 with any tidbits and news you would like to share. I really need your help to write our community news.
Stay warm this week!
