Greetings from Hickory Corner!
February did blast in with an ice storm, which lasted a few days and gave kids a few extra days out of school. I hope everyone stayed safe during the storm, and I am glad it is out of here. Although, it was pretty on the trees. Now the sun is shining once again. Monday was a beautiful day. Joel predicts some possible stormy weather coming in Wednesday.
Spring is on its way. How do I know? I saw daffodils in bloom along Wilson School Road at the old Alexander place. Spring officially begins March 20.
Those celebrating February birthdays include Ellna Roland (2/9), Nathan Clayton (2/15), Randall Jones (2/16), Gail Serratt (2/18), Anthony Cooper (2/19), Brad Garner (2/21), Chuck Lane (2/22), Peggy Lard (2/22) and my niece Donna McAllister of Pekin, Ill., (2/4) who takes the Independent. Wishing you all a wonderful birthday and many blessings this year.
National Random Acts of Kindness Day is Friday, Feb. 17. I encourage all of you to participate in a random act of kindness between now and then. Obviously, we should be kind every day, but this annual day does bring awareness to kindness. I always say doing something for others not only blesses the receiver but also blesses the giver. Give it a shot! I would love to hear how our community is spreading kindness.
Next Tuesday is Valentine’s Day, a good day to tell those special people in your life how much you love them. A good way to do that is with a card or maybe a box of chocolates. “All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.” (Charles Schulz). I have to admit that a heart-shaped box of chocolate is a great way to say you care about someone.
Our community extends sympathy to the family of Denny Clayton, beloved husband of Maria Clayton, father of Dara, Ben and Logan and son of Dinnos Clayton and the late Erma Dean Clayton. Denny was born and raised in the Hickory Corner Community and will be missed by his family and friends.
Please remember in prayer Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Peggy Lard, William and Eddie Luttrell, and Donna Lynch. Continue to pray for each other, our country, and our world. If you would like to add or remove a name from our prayer list, please call me.
If you would like to rent the HCC Center for a special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
