Greetings from Hickory Corner!
Mark your calendars for 5 p.m. Saturday, March 14, when the HCCC will be hosting a St. Patrick’s Day gathering. Start planning your St. Patrick’s Day outfit now as a prize will be awarded to the best dressed in green. Bring a dish to share as there will be a potluck dinner. Bingo will be played, so bring wrapped bingo gifts. As usual Phillip Cranford will be testing our brains with trivia questions. This will be a great evening of fun and fellowship. Plan now to join us.
Spring Forward! Do not forget that Daylight Savings Time begins this Sunday, March 8. Set your clocks forward one hour before getting into bed Saturday night. I am not thrilled with losing an hour of sleep, but I sure will be happy to gain an hour of daylight! Looks like sunset will be closer to 7 p.m.!
Bonice (Maness) Martin, daughter of the late Robert Maness, reports that she is also a keeper. After all these years, she has kept her father’s school “Reader” book. Isn’t that just precious? She can hold and read the book that her dad read when he was a little boy attending Hickory Corner School. Bonice said that the book was copyrighted in 1918.
I also heard from my niece Donna (Patterson) McAllister, who lives in Illinois and subscribes to the Independent. She said she is a keeper, too. She still has some of her son’s baby outfits in a box and has no plans in getting rid of them. Her baby is 42 years old. Donna is the daughter of the late Charles and Doris Patterson. Charles was born and raised in Hickory Corner.
Remember in prayer those that are on our prayer list: Elvie Lee Sanders, Arlan Porter, Walt and Ann Bennett, Richy Butler, Ronnie and Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Mary Alice and Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Sue Greene, Jim Ruth, W.T Roland, Peggy Lard, William Maness, Buck Burkhead, and all the caregivers. If you would like to add your name or if you would like your name removed, please call me.
If you would like to rent the HCC center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
Please call me at 989-3315 with any tidbits and/or news you would like to share. I am looking forward to hearing more “keeper” stories.
Did you know: In March 1931, The Star Spangled Banner officially became the National Anthem of the United States by a congressional resolution?

Make it a great week!
