Greetings from Hickory Corner.
Looks like we have experienced a little bit of Blackberry Winter with the recent cool spell. We had several nights in the 30s. A Blackberry Winter is a period of cold weather in late spring, usually early to mid-May, when the blackberries are in full bloom. Let us hope that is all behind us now!
President Nelson Weaver reports there will be no meeting in May due to the virus. Election of officers are normally in May, so elections will be postponed until further notice.
Membership dues are payable in May and can be mailed to Sarah Holmes at 720 Holmes Rd., Henderson, TN 38340.
My daughter, Cindy, from Illinois showed up on Mother’s Day. She called me the night before to tell me she was coming. We plan on having a fun week even though this trip will not include a shopping day since I am still careful about getting out. Well, maybe a small shopping trip for flowers but not our usual “see how much shopping we can do in a day”!
Brother Smith of New Home Baptist Church announced that worship hour service opened back up at 11 a.m. May 10. Social distancing will be taking place.
Our sympathy goes out to all the families who have lost loved ones, including Tammy Clayton on the recent loss of her father Dale Wolfe of Michigan and William and Mary Maness on the loss of their granddaughter, LeAnn Maness.
Thanks to Mike Clayton, who left a tomato plant on my doorstep. I will be planting it with fingers crossed that I will be able to walk out in my yard and pull off some fresh tomatoes this summer.
Folks be careful out there as our state re-opens as there are still hot spots and new cases popping up daily. Remember to stay safe and continue to wear your mask and social distance a little while longer. I will stay away from crowds for a little longer and continue to wear my mask when I am out. Pray for our scientists who are working hard to a find a vaccine for this virus.
It is so sad that many lives are being lost. Readers, you are in my prayers, and we will get through this together.
