Greetings from Hickory Corner!
I am thankful for the good rain that we got this past weekend. I had to reseed my front yard after some septic system work, and after the rain, my grass is coming in nice and green. Looking forward to some fall temperatures this week.
I recently chatted with my sister Louise Bennett who lives in Meansville, Ga., to see if her area had any storms from Hurricane Delta. She said that they had some strong winds, but she did not have any damage. Thinking of all those affected by Hurricane Delta, especially those in Louisiana.
Looks like our state is seeing an increase in positive cases of the COVID-19. Remember everything you have heard before: wear a face mask, social distance and wash your hands often. I am thinking that trick or treating will be somewhat different this year for children. The CDC recently advised against traditional trick-or-treating this year due to the virus. Door-to-door trick-or-treating, trunk-or-treating where treats are handed out from trunks of cars lined up in parking lots and indoor parties or haunted houses are among the riskiest Halloween activities when it comes to preventing the spread of COVID-19 (USA Today). Perhaps treats can be sat outside in a basket, and kids can still go door to door and just grab their treat while social distancing. How are your kids planning to celebrate Halloween?

Tidbits: did you know that our 33rd president, Harry S. Truman, and his wife Bess were the first two Americans to get Medicare cards in 1966. Both were in their early 80s. Truman had been calling for a national health insurance program for all Americans since 1945 when he became President but was ignored as it was thought to be socialized medicine. It was President Lyndon Johnson that finally signed the Medicare Act of 1965 into law.
