Greetings from Hickory Corner!
As I wrote this on Monday, it sure felt like winter. Looking out the window, I could see a few snow flurries, and when I went outside, I was bundled up in my coat, hat and gloves. Yes, Old Man Winter is on his way, and there is not anything we can do about it.
Due to the pandemic, the virus has kept us from having activities at the HCC Center this year. In May, we have homecoming, and in the fall, we have a fall festival to raise funds for the center. Both of these events were cancelled due to the virus. We all miss our activities at our center and the fellowship it provides, but we have to be safe as this virus continues to spread. We appreciate all those that have rented the center during this time, which helps with expenses. If you would like to rent the HCC center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159. It will be decorated for Christmas.
I was blessed on Thanksgiving Day. JoAnn Clayton told me a few days before that her daughter Kim would be bringing me dinner. Kim Hearn and Debbie Hearn delivered my Thanksgiving meal to me, and boy was it good. Desserts included banana pudding and apple dumplings, and I admit I ate all of it but not in one sitting! The only thing I made on Thanksgiving morning was a pie, and I took it to my good neighbors, William and Eddie Luttrell. Also, thanks to Stacy Clayton for bringing tacos for lunch on Sunday to his mom, JoAnn, and also to me. Being a recipient of these kind acts sure brightened my day. “Remember one little love of kindness on some poor heart may fall like beams from yonder golden sun that brightly shines for all.” – unknown
The Chester County Independent is holding the Tails of Chester County Pet Contest. There will be a grand prize winner, and the top 12 vote getters will be featured in a 2021 Pet Calendar. Votes are $1 per vote, and you can go to the Independent’s Facebook to get the link to see the entries and to vote. This is for a very good cause with portions of the money benefitting the City of Henderson Animal Control, Loving Paws and Funny Farm Rescue Ranch. I have entered my cat, Hobo Jo, sitting under the Christmas tree. Please check out the entries and vote on your favorite pet. There are so many animals that need to be rescued, and I know that Loving Paws and Funny Farm Rescue Ranch do a wonderful job rescuing animals, rehabbing them and finding them homes. Vote, vote and vote some more for a great cause! Voting ends at 4 p.m. Dec. 10.
Remember in prayer Arlan Porter, Ann Bennett, Richy Butler, Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Mary Alice and Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Jim Ruth, W.T. Roland, Peggy Lard and William Luttrell. Continue to pray for those who are dealing with sickness and COVID-19. Also, pray for those who have lost loved ones. If you would like to add or remove a name to our prayer list, please call me.
As always, I need your help in writing this column. Please call me at 989-3315 with any news or tidbits. Let me know if you have received an act of kindness.
Make it a great week and spread some kindness!
