Greetings from Hickory Corner!
We were blessed with beautiful weather last week. My lab, Ruger, and I took a walk every day. Ruger likes to end our walks by visiting Buddy’s grave (10/19/20).
Buddy and Ruger were pals for many years. Ruger has a large kennel. Sometimes he sleeps in Buddy’s house, other times he sleeps in his own house. If you have pets, please make sure they have good shelter, water, food and lots of love.
I entered my cat, Hobo, in the Tails of Chester County Pet Contest. Hobo received votes from Chester County, Memphis, Johnson City, Indiana, Illinois and Missouri. I hope he made it in the top 12, so he will be in the 2021 Pet Calendar. Fingers crossed! My family was watching closely, and with a few minutes left in the contest, Hobo was in seventh place. It was so much fun and for a very good cause. Hobo earned $353 which will help with rescue animals, and I am so proud of him. Hobo thanks everyone meowy much who voted for him. He remembers what it was like to be homeless as I rescued him in 2015. Let’s all purchase the 2021 calendar.
Christmas is next week! Can you believe it? Better get your shopping done. Remember to shop local. Our businesses need us now more than ever.
What is your favorite Christmas song(s)? Mine are “Joy to the World” and “Silent Night.” Call me with your favorite, and I will list favorites next week.
Is the arrival of the vaccine the beginning of the end of this pandemic. I certainly hope so.
“Hope — Hope in the face of difficulty. Hope in the face of uncertainty. The audacity of hope! In the end, that is God’s greatest gift to us. A belief in things not seen. A belief that there are better days ahead.” – Barrack Obama
Sympathy to the family of Mary Alice Autry (4/18/1925 -12/01/2020). Mary Alice was a sweet lady and a member of our HCC Center. She always enjoyed attending the events there. All enjoyed her coconut cake and caramel pies. Also, sympathy to Vickie Clayton and Danny Wade on the loss of their father, Robert Cox. May God comfort these families.
Remember in prayer Arlan Porter, Ann Bennett, Richy Butler, Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Jim Ruth, W.T. Roland, Peggy Lard and William and Eddie Luttrell. Continue to pray for those who are dealing with sickness and the COVID-19.
If you would like to rent the HCC center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159. The center will be decorated for Christmas.
As always, I need your help in writing this column. Please call me at 989-3315 with any news or tidbits. I want to hear from you!
Lastly, yes, it is true, “Life is better with a local newspaper.” I look forward to Thursday’s mail every week as the Independent is in my mailbox. I love it!
Make it a great week!
